<p>Responsibilities for this Position</p> <p>Fiber-Optics Experienced Engineer - Systems</p> <p>US-CT-Groton</p> <p>Job ID: 2025-15773</p> <p>Type: Full-Time</p> <p># of Openings: 1</p> <p>Category: Engineering</p> <p>EB Groton Shipyard</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>The Electric Boat fiber-optic engineering team is responsible for the design, qualification, and integration and testing of the fiber-optic cable system (FOCS) on US Navy submarines. Engineers support the system during each stage of development to drive timely completion of crucial construction milestones.</p> <p>The FOCS spans multiple submarine platforms and interconnects over twenty (20) different subsystems on each. To coordinate many unique interfaces on this scale, exceptional communication and organizational skills are a must-have. The candidate for this position will be required to interface with NAVSEA, government vendors and various other Electric Boat departments on a daily basis.</p> <p>Additionally, the fiber-optic team is Electric Boats Fiber-Optic Center of Excellence providing general fiber-optic expertise for the company.</p> <p>This position will require the engineer to perform technology investigations, write white papers, review/approve drawings, resolve construction issues, identify/manage risks, recognize opportunities for cost reduction track/evaluate requirements and manage various projects.</p> <p>While most of the job takes place in the office, shipyard visits are often required to troubleshoot construction issues. Opportunity for hands-on work and travel exist, but are less common.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Department 442 Electrical Systems Engineer expectations:</p> <ul> <li>Highly motivated: Taking ownership of work, working independent, ability to multi-task and maintain organization, doing what is needed without being asked, following through </li><li>Project management: developing and maintaining project schedules and budgets; strategic planning and results orientation; identify and mitigate project risks </li><li>Team player: building productive relationships with interfacing organizations, approachable and team oriented, positive work environment </li><li>Communication: Balancing listening and talking, speaking and writing clearly and accurately, influencing others, keeping others informed </li><li>Problem-solving/engineering judgements: ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions </li><li>Quality/Compliance: Achieving a standard of excellence with our work processes and products </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelors of Science Degree or higher in Electrical engineering or Physics </li><li>10+ years of engineering experience </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in the following areas: </li><li>Fiber optics </li><li>Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Project, Visio) </li><li>System/component development </li><li>Project management </li><li>Teamcenter / NX </li></ul>
