Individually and together, our employees are dedicated to satisfying the mission of our organization which is an unwavering commitment to excellence as we care for the sick and injured; educate physicians, nurses and other health care providers; and improve access to care in the communities we serve, regardless of a patient's ability to pay for health care.</p> <p>Prepare slides of human tissue to provide data on causes and/or progress of disease.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Perform all procedures as described in the sections procedure manuals.( microtomy, staining and coverslipping of H&E, special stains AND immunohistochemistry) . </li><li>Embeds in paraffin, cuts, stains, and mounts specimens of human tissue. </li><li>Prepares reagents, stains and other solutions. </li><li>Maintains all section log books regarding temperatures, controls, special studies and other quality control documentation. </li><li>Recognizes malfunctions of procedures or instruments. </li><li>Performs maintenance on instruments and equipment. </li><li>Works on special related projects as assigned. </li><li>Attends educational programs and in-service meetings as required by the hospital. </li><li>Uses laboratory computer to generate worksheets/logs. </li><li>Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information. </li><li>Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. </li><li>Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external). </li><li>Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety </li><li>Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices. </li><li>Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code. </li><li>Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated. </li></ul> <p>OTHER FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Informs supervisor of low supplies. </li><li>Assists pathologist in gross specimen description. </li><li>Uses laboratory computer to accession specimens. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. </li><li>Other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Sitting up to 6 hours/day in 3 hour increments to imbed tissue or cut blocks. Standing up to 3 hours/day in 1 hour increments. Walking up to 2 hours/day in 10 minute increments. Frequently uses fingers to manipulate cassettes and slides and for computer keyboard. Continuous use of hands for imbedding tissue, cutting tissue blocks and coverslipping slides. Frequent twisting of hands/wrists during cutting tissue blocks and coverslipping slides. Rarely lifts boxes, slide files or block files up to 25 pounds. Rarely carries objects up to 25 pounds. Rarely bends/stoops or crouches. Rarely reaches above shoulder level. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general far/near/color and peripheral vision and depth perception.</p> <p>MOST COMPLEX DUTY:</p> <p>Prepare acceptable quality slides of human tissue for microscopic diagnosis by pathologist.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Histotechnologist 2</p> <p>Page 3</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS)</p> <p>(MINIMUM)</p> <p>EDUCATION: Associates Degree, High School diploma or equivalent.</p> <p>TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: HT (ASCP), HTL (ASCP) registered or eligible.
