<p>Description</p> <p>The Public Affairs and Community Engagement (PACE) Division is seeking a seasonal Media Specialist to support the Department of Parks and Recreation's communications and marketing efforts through strong writing, storytelling, and media support. This position plays a key role in sharing the Department's impact, programs, and services with residents, partners, and stakeholders across Prince George's County.</p> <p>The ideal candidate is a strong writer who understands how to translate government and community-focused work into clear, engaging, and accessible content that reflects the Department's mission and brand.</p> <p>For more information about the Seasonal Hiring process and application status for Prince George's County Parks and Recreation, please contact Joelle Edmond,Joelle.Edmond@pgparks.comor Brenda MillerBrenda.Miller@Pgparks.com.</p> <p>Examples of Important Duties</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Writing & Editorial Content</p> <ul> <li>Write, edit, and proofread a wide range of materials including press releases, media advisories, feature stories, newsletters, website content, talking points, and social media copy </li><li>Translate Department initiatives, programs, events, and policies into clear, compelling, and community-centered messaging </li><li>Ensure consistency with Department branding, tone, and messaging standards. </li></ul> <p>Media & Public Affairs Support</p> <ul> <li>Assist with media outreach efforts, including drafting pitches and coordinating interviews </li><li>Support preparation of press kits, media lists, and briefing materials </li><li>Monitor and track media coverage related to Department initiatives </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Strong writing and editing skills, with experience producing public-facing content </li><li>Ability to write clearly for diverse audiences, including residents, media, and stakeholders </li><li>Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills </li><li>Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Background in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field </li><li>Experience working in government, parks and recreation, nonprofit, or community based organizations </li><li>Familiarity with media relations and public-sector communications </li><li>Knowledge of Communications and Marketing best practices and digital storytelling </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>May be subject to drug and alcohol testing.</p> <p>The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
