<p>Kforce has a client in Englewood, CO that is seeking a mid- to senior-level Network & CPE Engineer to support production Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) environments and perform in-depth troubleshooting across DOCSIS, PON, and Wi-Fi firmware platforms. This role focuses on escalation support, root cause analysis (RCA), and collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams to diagnose and resolve complex network and device-level issues.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Network & CPE Engineer will perform production CPE Root Cause Analysis (RCA) across DOCSIS, PON, and Wi-Fi firmware environments </li><li>Troubleshoot complex modem, router, mesh Wi-Fi, and access-network-related issues </li><li>Analyze firmware, system, and network logs to identify fault conditions and message flows </li><li>Support escalation troubleshooting (P1/P2 incidents), including lab replication and validation of fixes </li><li>Test and validate firmware, configuration changes, and engineering builds prior to deployment </li><li>Collaborate with internal engineering, operations, and vendor teams to identify defects and drive resolution </li><li>As a Network & CPE Engineer, you will manage escalation tickets through resolution, ensuring fixes address underlying root causes </li><li>Build, maintain, and validate network test labs (switches, PDUs, modems, ONUs, CPE devices) </li><li>Assess existing network technologies to identify performance, stability, and capacity gaps </li><li>Provide recommendations to optimize network architecture, reliability, and operational processes* 5-10+ years of relevant experience in network engineering, CPE support, or related technical roles </li><li>Mid-level candidates should demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills and hands-on experience </li><li>Senior-level candidates should bring deep RCA expertise, escalation leadership, and cross-team collaboration experience </li><li>Experience with PON technologies and working knowledge of DOCSIS </li><li>Hands-on CPE experience (modems, routers, Wi-Fi gateways, set-top boxes) </li><li>Experience supporting escalation-level troubleshooting and RCA efforts </li><li>Experience with device configuration files and firmware/log analysis </li><li>Strong Linux experience (Bash, SSH, jump boxes) </li><li>Scripting experience with Python, Perl, and/or Shell </li><li>Exposure to CMTS/iCMTS or equivalent access network platforms </li><li>Solid understanding of routing and switching fundamentals </li><li>Ability to interpret firmware and network logs and understand message flow behavior </li></ul> <p>Preferred/Nice to have:</p> <ul> <li>Experience with mesh Wi-Fi systems </li><li>Lab build, validation, or test-environment experience </li><li>Knowledge of advanced routing or multicast protocols (IPv4/IPv6) </li><li>Experience with SQL databases and REST APIs </li><li>Prior experience collaborating with hardware or software vendors </li></ul> <p>Technical Environment:</p> <ul> <li>DOCSIS and PON access technologies </li><li>CPE devices and Wi-Fi firmware platforms </li><li>Linux environments (Bash configuration, SSH key authentication, developer tooling) </li><li>Python, Perl, Shell, SQL, REST APIs </li></ul>
