Discover your opportunities at Yale!</p> <p>Salary Range</p> <p>$100,400.00 - $163,100.00</p> <p>Overview The Managing Director will serve as a strategic partner to the Dean of Yale School of Music, and a key member of the operational and strategic leadership team. This role encompasses the oversight and management of the School's administrative units, including communications, operations, technology, collection of musical instruments, and human resources. The position requires handling complex and sensitive situations with discretion and judgment, representing the Dean in various meetings, and managing service providers and strategic projects. Required Skills and Abilities 1. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage diverse administrative units, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Proven track record of inspiring and guiding teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. 2. Expertise in developing and implementing long-term business and operational strategies. Strong ability to optimize resources, manage projects, and anticipate future needs and challenge. 3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effectively representing the organization and negotiating with stakeholders. Proficiency in conveying ideas clearly and effectively to diverse audiences and facilitating collaboration between departments. 4. Knowledge with financial management, including budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation. Ability to ensure financial stability and efficiency through informed decision-making based on thorough financial analysis and understanding. 5. Exceptional problem-solving skills to handle complex and sensitive issues with sound judgment. Proven decision-making abilities to resolve conflicts, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement in administrative processes Preferred Education, Experience and Skills A degree in music or equivalent work experience within a music school or related industry is preferred. Preferably a minimum of 7 years of related experience.</p> <p>Principal Responsibilities</p> <ol> <li>Develops goals for the work of managerial and professional staff in one or more operations to ensure that they can work efficiently and effectively. 2. Allocates work assignments and issue deadlines to managerial and professional staff; directs and monitors the work to ensure that it is proceeding on schedule and meeting the established quality standards. 3. Directs resources to meet the needs of faculty, students, and staff across all assigned functions; evaluates needs and resources of departments requesting or requiring projects and delivers services to the department. 4. Writes policy and subsets of policy for the department consistent with University goals and objectives and assists in writing and approving functional level goals. 5. Develops the short-term (1-3 years) and long-term (3-5 years) planning and allocation of the resources to drive financial, operational, and budgetary success across the Business Operations function. 6. Guided by function strategy; anticipates issues; develops new and/or improved solutions and implements creative solutions to resolve issues in assigned departments. 7. Executes changes as necessary within assigned offices to improve efficiency and effectiveness of information dissemination. 8. Manages a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.
