<p>SCOPE OF POSITION:</p> <p>In collaboration with the Vice President, Surgical and Specialty Services, assures the delivery services in the Central Sterile Department on a 24/7 basis. Assumes a leadership role within the Central Sterile Department to ensure that services meet established standards in a manner consistent with Waterbury Hospital's mission, goals and objectives. Allocates available resources for efficient and effective operation, provide input into decisions, and serve as the link between the Vice President and the Central Sterile staff. Provides clinical and management leadership and expertise. Facilitates an atmosphere of participative management and teamwork among the staff. Manager has functional responsibility for the implementation and execution of the goals and standards of the nursing services within their defined areas of responsibility.</p> <p>The Manager is accountable for the environment in which the Central Sterile staff work. The successful candidate contributes to the long-range planning process, day-to-day operations, recruitment and retention of qualified staff, and attainment of goals of the organization. Collaborates with the Vice President and others in organizational programming and committee work. Reports to the Vice President, Surgical and Specialty Services.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Direct and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). </li><li>Lead, train, and evaluate staff including technicians, leads, and supervisors. </li><li>Develop schedules to ensure adequate staffing coverage for all shifts. </li><li>Monitor departmental KPIs and implement process improvements </li><li>Ensure all activities comply with hospital policies, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, AORN, and Joint Commission standards. </li><li>Maintain accurate documentation for sterilization records, biological indicators, and equipment maintenance. </li><li>Implement and enforce infection control procedures and safety standards. </li><li>Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits and inspections. </li><li>Oversee inventory levels for sterile supplies, instrumentation, and equipment. </li><li>Collaborate with OR and Supply Chain teams to anticipate surgical needs and manage instrument availability. </li><li>Ensure proper functioning and preventive maintenance of sterilizers, washers, and other SPD equipment. </li><li>Conduct ongoing education and training for staff on best practices, new equipment, and compliance standards. </li><li>Ensure staff maintains adequate credits to meet State of CT requirements. </li><li>Support certification and professional development of SPD personnel (CRCST, CBSPD, etc.). </li><li>Other duties as needed. </li><li></li></ul> <p>REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Excellent communication skills. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking skills and a systematic approach to problem solving </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate effectively with administration, physicians, patients/families and other members of the hospital staff. </li><li>Knowledge of standards as required by State, Federal and JCAHO requirements. </li><li>Ability to work with patients, families and other disciplines with tact and confidentiality. </li><li>Ability to work in a time oriented environment including exposure to all patient elements i.e. blood borne pathogens; physical requirements; lifting and reaching of equipment; transport of equipment, standing and walking. </li><li>May be exposed to environmental hazards such as toxic spills or by-products. </li><li>Bachelors Degree in Business or related field from an accredited school required. </li><li>At least five (5) years experience in service business, including demonstrated leadership activities. </li><li>Advanced knowledge and training in specified specialty, preferred. </li><li>Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures. </li><li>Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility. </li></ul>
