<p>QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree and Social Studies (5-8) and / or Social Studies (9-12) certification required</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Building Principals and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Building Principals and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction the Lead shall: Under the direction of the Building Principals and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the Civics Project Lead shall: Provide leadership in the implementation, coordination, and organization of the Civics Project required by Massachusetts General Law Chapter 296 for all grade 8 and high school students. Communicate with administrators regarding teacher questions and/or concerns related to Civics Project design, instruction, assessment, and program requirements. Facilitate department and PLC meetings related to Civics Project planning and execution; coordinate collaboration among middle and high school social studies teachers. Work with the Building Principals and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to make recommendations regarding Civics Project best practices, instructional strategies, and program improvements. Ensure Civics Projects meet state law requirements, including student choice, public presentation, and opportunities for informed action. Support the development, articulation, and integration of Civics Project objectives into the district's social studies curriculum. Assist in orienting new social studies teachers to the Civics Project requirements; coordinate mentoring support as needed. Recommend instructional materials, resources, and tools to support high-quality Civics Project implementation; prepare a budget and manage related purchases. Recommend and help facilitate professional development for educators related to Civics Project design, student engagement strategies, and authentic assessment. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Principal or the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
