No Career Ladder Path</p> <p>n/a</p> <p>Department Name Office of the Controller Full Time / Part Time full-time Scheduled Work Week / Hours / Area</p> <p>Full-time, 35 hours per week</p> <p>Academic or Calendar Year calendar Number of Employees Supervised 0 Position Overview</p> <p>The Accounting Office collects and maintains the College's financial data and prepares the year-end financial statements in conformity with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The office performs general accounting, disbursement, non-student billing and collection as well as cash management activities.</p> <p>The division of Administration and Finance is responsible for financial and budgetary systems and processes, information services, security and safety, facilities and operations, and capital projects for a 47 building, 180-acre campus.</p> <p>Primary Purpose</p> <p>To oversee and supervise, with the Assistant Controller, the recording and summarization of all financial information pertaining to the fiscal operation of Rhode Island College. To work with the Assistant Controller in the preparation of financial reports submitted to the Board of Governors, auditors, College administration, and various other departments.</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <ul> <li>Supervise the record keeping and bookkeeping of College receipts and disbursements from various checking accounts maintained by the College. </li><li>Authorize and review supporting documents for disbursements from funds maintained for students and on-campus agencies. </li><li>Provide financial information to the Controller upon request. Prepare various other reports as required by other College departments or agencies. </li><li>Prepare, with the Assistant Controller, the annual financial statements of Rhode Island College. </li><li>Supervise the preparation of monthly and other payrolls, payments of federal and state taxes, and the necessary maintenance of payroll information regarding individuals and departmental charges. </li><li>Reconcile and Bursar's Office records with those of the Accounting Office regarding income and accounts receivable. </li><li>Reconcile data recorded on State and College accounting systems. </li><li>Insure accuracy of grants and other aid to students and the federal monies for these programs, which are awarded by the Financial Aid Office. </li><li>Maintain the general ledgers of all fund accounts of the College. </li><li>Assist the Controller and Assistant Controller regarding accounting, internal control, or other situations that may arise. </li><li>Assist in improving or streamlining department procedures and those of other departments when deemed necessary. </li><li>Supervise fiscal and clerical staff in the Accounting Office and assign work when required. </li></ul> <p>Occasional Duties</p> <p>Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Controller or Assistant Vice President for Finance/Controller.</p> <p>Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of fund accounting; </li><li>Working knowledge of the principles of corporate and government finance and college or university accounting systems. </li><li>Ability to analyze and enhance accounting systems and procedures. </li><li>Ability to analyze and prepare financial statements. </li><li>Ability to plan, supervise and review the work of subordinate accounting staff. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. </li><li>A minimum of four years of related experience in a fund accounting environment; related supervisory experience. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree. </li><li>Experience using PeopleSoft or other enterprise accounting software systems. </li></ul> <p>Environmental Conditions</p> <p>The employee is not exposed to known adverse environmental conditions.</p>
