<p>WAYLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS</p> <p>EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY</p> <p>2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR</p> <p>JOB POSTING</p> <p>Position: Reading Specialist</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>Wayland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Reading Specialist to provide targeted, evidence-based literacy instruction and serve as a leader in advancing high-quality reading practices. Grounded in the Science of Reading, this role supports students in developing proficiency across the five essential components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.</p> <p>The Reading Specialist collaborates with educators to design, implement, and refine tiered systems of support (MTSS), ensuring all students have equitable access to rigorous and meaningful literacy instruction.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):</p> <p>Instruction & Student Support</p> <ul> <li>Provide targeted literacy instruction for students in grades K-2 through push-in and pull-out models </li><li>Implement evidence-based reading practices aligned with the Science of Reading </li><li>Administer and analyze formal and informal literacy assessments (e.g., DIBELS, Amplify) </li><li>Use data to identify needs, monitor progress, and adjust instruction accordingly </li><li>Develop and support targeted, measurable student goals </li></ul> <p>Collaboration & Leadership</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with classroom teachers, multilingual educators, and special educators to support diverse learners </li><li>Co-plan and model effective literacy instruction </li><li>Lead and support data meetings to inform instructional decision-making </li><li>Contribute to MTSS and Student Support Team (SST) processes </li><li>Support implementation of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) </li><li>Serve as a resource on evidence-based literacy practices, dyslexia, and intervention strategies </li></ul> <p>Coaching & Communication</p> <ul> <li>Support and, when appropriate, coach educators in effective literacy practices </li><li>Promote inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive instruction </li><li>Communicate clearly with families regarding student progress and strategies for support </li></ul> <p>Core Beliefs</p> <ul> <li>All students can become proficient readers with the right instruction and support </li><li>Literacy instruction must be explicit, evidence-based, and equitable </li><li>Collaboration and continuous learning improve student outcomes </li><li>Data should inform instruction while honoring the strengths and identities of all learners </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree required; Master's degree in Reading, Literacy, or related field preferred </li><li>Valid Massachusetts Reading Specialist licensure required </li><li>SEI Endorsement required </li><li>Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred </li><li>Strong understanding of the Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy practices </li><li>Training in Orton-Gillingham and/or Wilson preferred </li><li>Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule and Compensation:</p> <ul> <li>Salary: Commensurate with experience and in accordance with the Wayland Educator's Association (WEA) collective bargaining agreement (e.g., Master's through Master's +30 range: $95,754-$126,651) </li><li>Work Schedule: 2026-2027 school year in alignment with the WEA Unit A contract </li></ul> <p>Benefits:</p> <p>Wayland Public Schools offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, employer-sponsored Health Savings Account, dental, vision, long-term disability, life insurance, 403(b), Dependent Care Account, Flexible Spending Accounts, and participation in retirement pension systems.</p> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer Statement:</p> <p>Wayland Public Schools is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable educational environment.
