Utilizes interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiencyProvides care appropriate to the age groups of patients regularly served; applies knowledge of growth and development when caring for patients of all ages Works in a collegial and collaborative relationship with other health care providers to determine the needs of the patients and their families and communicates effectively in the exchange of information to ensure quality and continuity of care. Effectively participates in all 'Hand Off' communication WITHOUT EXCEPTION: shift to shift, from ED to inpatient areas, RN to MD. Adheres to infection control protocols and policiesMaintains annual mandatory education requirements, which include emergency skills and unit based competenciesIdentifies the need for continued growth and development by attending and/or participating in in-house or outside training programs to improve and augment skills and knowledgePerforms safely and efficiently in emergency situations, assessing, planning and evaluating care to meet rapidly changing patient and family needs.Participates in activities that contribute to professional development of self; may participate in nursing/multidisciplinary committees, orientation programs and unit based Performance Improvement projects demonstrating an ability to act as Team Leader for small projects or work groups that create a collaborative and respectful team environment and orientation programs.Assumes role of Resource Nurse as necessary, understanding, coordinating and ensuring work flow through the department and maintaining contact with the Triage RN to appropriately prioritize and place the ED patient.Assumes the role of Triage RN as necessary, utilizing an ESI 5 Tier triage system to appropriately assess and prioritize the needs of the ED patient and maintains contact with the Resource RN to ensure safe and timely placement of the patient in the coreAdheres to the hospital's RESPECT standards; providing a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customersEmployee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served.Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor.The nature of the tasks/responsibilities required of employees in this position will likely expose them to blood and body fluids. Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control. A summary list of tasks and procedures that may cause exposure to blood and body fluids is listed in the attached Physical Abilities Job Description. Also identified is the protective gear that is available. QUALIFICATIONS:1 Year of acute care medical-surgical experience (or equivalent) required, Emergency nursing experience preferredAmerican Heart Association Basic Life Support, certification requiredAmerican Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support; certification requiredAmerican Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support; certification preferred, required within twelve months of hire.Must be able to pass basic medication test prior to hireMust be able to pass basic tele test by end of orientation.A Physical Abilities Job Description is a component of this Job Description.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
