This position also coordinates advising services for the College as well as the development, training and implementation of the College's Academic Planner academic maps system. In addition, he/she represents the College in connecting students with other university community areas, as well as other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Principal Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Assesses student needs, goals, interests and prior academic experiences to design and implement a successful academic plan for students in degree programs within the College of Arts and Sciences. </li><li>Coordinates advising services for the College of Arts and Sciences and serves as a resource for faculty and staff regarding advising needs. </li><li>Coordinates the development, training, and implementation of the College's Academic Planner academic maps system and student tracking software. </li><li>Represents the College of Arts and Sciences in connecting students with other areas of university community. </li><li>Stays up-to-date with changing institutional information, engages in professional development activities, and represents College of Arts and Sciences on selected committees. </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assesses student needs, goals, interests and prior academic experiences to design and implement a successful academic plan for students in degree programs within the College of Arts and Sciences.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates with the Registrar's office and academic departments to ensure transfer credits are correctly applied to a program's curriculum; may involve research of course descriptions to verify transferability.</p> </li><li> <p>Reviews and interprets placement and other standardized test scores, unofficial transcripts, and courses prerequisites.</p> </li><li> <p>Reviews and interprets degree audits.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitors student registration activities and recommends solutions to academic difficulties.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains systematic and frequent contact with advisees. Maintains accurate records (including electronic records) of interactions with students.</p> </li><li> <p>Serves as student advocate when appropriate.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates advising services for the College of Arts and Sciences and serves as a resource for faculty and staff regarding advising needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Develops advising materials and presentations to support individual and group student sessions.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in the planning, implementation, and the evaluation of the academic advisement program's goals and objectives.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates the development, implementation, and on-going revisions to the student communication plans regarding advising, enrollment, and retention services specific to the College of Arts and Sciences; disseminates information on institutional policies and procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates the development, training, and implementation of the College's Academic Planner academic maps system & student tracking software.</p> </li><li> <p>Represents the College of Arts and Sciences in connecting students with other areas of university community.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates with the Office of Career Development and the relevant offices to assist students with career planning. Refers students to the appropriate specialized staff for such issues as comprehensive counseling, financial assistance, study abroad, etc. Monitors the needs of students who are Veterans and coordinates services among all relevant areas of campus for Veterans who are enrolled in the College.</p> </li><li> <p>Serves as liaison and fosters intentional relationships with other advisors, offices, and academic units in the College of Arts and Sciences and the University.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in the development, implementation, review, presentation, and revision of orientations for the first-time college students and transfer students.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in institutional student development and retention programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Stays up-to-date with changing institutional information, engages in professional development activities, and represents College of Arts and Sciences on selected committees.</p> </li><li> <p>Stays abreast of changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates, costs, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, ADA requirements, and state and federal mandates that impact students.</p> </li><li> <p>Engages in professional development activities, including but not limited to, memberships in professional organizations (NACADA, NACE); attendance at conferences, workshops, division, and department training sessions; stays current with information technology skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Represents the College of Arts and Sciences on selected committees (e.g., serves as a Title IX officer for the University and conducts investigations as assigned</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned</p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <p>MINIMUM JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Able to relate to students and their unique needs in a kind and courteous manner. </li><li>Multiple years of experience working with college students in academic and/or support services counseling capacities. </li><li>Skilled in listening, advising, verbal and written communication in individual and large group settings. </li><li>Coordination, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills. </li><li>Collaboration with support staff and/or student employees to ensure successful execution of goals/events. </li><li>Computer and technical skills, especially those related to advising software and social media that may be used to facilitate the advising relationship. Virtual advising, student information systems, record management are all a daily function of this work. </li><li>Ability to work independently with complex systems in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. </li><li>Demonstrates understanding of the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Higher Education/Student Personnel, Education, Counseling, a discipline area of the College, or a related field. </li><li>2-3 years of experience. </li></ul> <p>Shawnee State University offers a competitive starting salary (commensurate with overall qualifications) including an attractive benefits package.
