<p>The University's emergency management program is designed to maximize emergency preparedness, fortify community safety, preserve university property, restore normal operations in the event of an emergency, and provide responsive communications to all appropriate parties.</p> <p>Accountabilities</p> <p>As a Part-time Fire and Life Safety/Safety Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and compliance of fire and life safety equipment. Primary responsibilities will include inspecting and testing emergency lighting systems, fire extinguishers, AEDs, and identifying deficiencies that require attention. You will also troubleshoot issues, determine necessary repairs, and help maintain compliance with fire and life safety regulations. You will work closely with the Fire Safety Director to oversee assigned programs and ensure the highest level of safety and protection.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Schedule and conduct inspections of emergency lighting systems in accordance with applicable codes. </li><li>Schedule and inspect fire extinguishers as required by NFPA 10. </li><li>Schedule and inspect AEDs to ensure they are in working condition. </li><li>Maintain accurate and timely records in compliance with the International Fire Code (IFC) and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). </li><li>Collaborate with the Fire Safety Director to coordinate corrective actions for any identified deficiencies. </li><li>Assist with other required fire and life safety inspections, including fire alarm testing escorts, fire drills, hot work permits, and tent permits. </li><li>Stay up-to-date with applicable regulations and technical skills through professional development and training to ensure ongoing compliance. </li><li>Assist with other fire and life safety management programs as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Requirements</p> <p>Professional Experience/ Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of the International Fire Code (IFC) for inspecting and testing emergency lighting systems. </li><li>Basic computer skills. </li><li>Professional demeanor and strong work ethic. </li><li>Excellent organizational skills. </li><li>A valid driver's license, in compliance with the University's Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications Education</p> <p>High school diploma or equivalent required</p> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and comfortably climb ladders as part of the inspection and maintenance process.</p> <p>Other Information</p>
