<p>Job Title: TCPS Athletic Trainer</p> <p>Reports to: Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services/Athletic Director</p> <p>Essential Summary:</p> <p>The Athletic Trainer must have knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations, and best practices involving health and safety of athletics. They are responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries for student-athletes participating in the school's athletic programs. The athletic trainer will work closely with coaches, families, medical professionals, and school administrators to ensure the health and safety of all athletes. Be available for coverage, practices, scrimmages, playdays and tournaments that fall within the regular scheduled season. Additional coverage as needed for home playoff games and summer camps. Approval of a flexible schedule to accommodate weekend and after hours events will be determined by the supervisor.</p> <p>Job Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>Organization and Administration:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work with various leaders, athletic coaches, district/county athletic directors, local agencies, students, families and district leaders. </li><li>Ability to manage multiple tasks on short notice and adjust, as needed. </li><li>Maintain a daily treatment log and appropriate medical documentation regarding all injuries. </li><li>Approve the annual required athletic physicals and supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons. </li><li>Regularly review and adjust emergency action plans and ensure proper training and implementation of said plans. </li><li>Maintain a line of communication with physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries. </li><li>Maintain communication with parents and coaches on the care & treatment of their student-athlete. </li><li>Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room and maintain an up to date inventory. Provide the Athletic Director with an annual budget for supplies and equipment. </li><li>Teach the required MPSSAA care and prevention course for new coaches. </li><li>Maintain an ethical, professional, and confidential work environment. Any potential violations could result in disciplinary action/terminations. </li></ul> <p>Injury Prevention:</p> <ul> <li>Equip each team with appropriate medical equipment. </li><li>Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads or braces. </li><li>Monitor and effectively communicate environmental conditions (e.g., heat index, field safety, lightning) to protect the health and safety of student-athletes. </li><li>Educate athletes and coaches on injury prevention techniques, proper nutrition, and conditioning exercises. </li></ul> <p>Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrate proficiency in implementation of acute treatment protocols based upon assessment findings. </li><li>Evaluation and recognition of injuries during practice, training, and competitions. </li><li>Provide first aid and emergency care such as CPR and AED. </li></ul> <p>Treatment</p> <ul> <li>Coordinates care with student athlete's families, coaches, physicians, Athletic Director, and principal/school staff. Any care provided during the school date must be approved by the principal/assistant principal and AT supervisors. </li><li>Apply protective devices such as tape, bandages, and braces, when needed. </li><li>Coordinate and oversee concussion management protocols. </li><li>Develops and implements rehabilitation programs for injured athletes. </li><li>Coordinate with student-athletes physicians and physical therapists as needed. </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training, from a CAATE (Commission on Accreditation Athletic Training Education) accredited program </li><li>Master's degree (preferred) in athletic training, from a CAATE accredited program. </li></ul> <p>Certifications:</p> <ul> <li>National Athletic Training Association (NATA) Board of Certification (in good standing) </li><li>AED and CPR certification </li><li>Hold a current Maryland Board of Physicians Athletic Training License and Evaluation of Treatment Protocols with Supervising Physician or obtain this license within 30 Days of hire </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>1 (one) year of experience in athletic training in a high school experience, collegiate, or professional sports. </li></ul> <p>Terms of Employment:</p> <ul> <li>12 month position. </li></ul> <p>Salary:</p> <ul> <li>S25/10 </li></ul>
