<p>Only applicants who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements and meet all selective requirements (listed below) will be placed on the eligible list. </p> <p>The Iowa Insurance Division is seeking a Special Investigator for our Fraud Bureau. This is a certified peace officer position. The Iowa Insurance Fraud Bureau is the only State Law Enforcement Agency specifically tasked with receiving complaints of insurance fraud, securities fraud, and acts of fraud identified in other areas of regulatory authority under the Commissioner of Insurance. Fraud Bureau Special Investigators are responsible for investigating those complaints and facilitating criminal prosecutions of the offenders. This authority is extended to Special Investigators through Iowa Criminal Code 507E.</p> <p>Insurance companies are required by Iowa law to refer any suspected incidents of insurance fraud to the Iowa Insurance Fraud Bureau. The Fraud Bureau also receives fraud complaints from other government entities, law enforcement agencies, as well as the general public. The Special Investigator is responsible for analyzing and investigating potential insurance fraud cases.</p> <p>Special Investigators, through partnerships, work cooperatively with other local, state, and federal government entities to resolve these cases successfully. Investigators are often the liaison between other law enforcement agencies and financial services companies. Depending on the extent of the fraud, investigations can be long-term, complex, and labor-intensive.</p> <p>Special Investigators handle cases involving various lines of insurance including health, life, workers' compensation, and property/casualty insurance. Special Investigators also conduct investigations into the activities of insurance producers and securities brokers conducting business in the State of Iowa.</p> <p>During the course of an investigation, the Special Investigator will use a variety of different procedures including but not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Conducting informational-based searches regarding the involved parties to verify information and collecting additional information from involved parties </li><li>Analyzing all case-related information </li><li>Gathering additional evidentiary documents through the use of file request letters, subpoenas, search warrants, etc </li><li>Conducting interviews of involved parties </li><li>Preparing detailed investigative reports </li><li>Presenting the investigative results to the appropriate county, state, or federal prosecutor </li><li>Filing criminal charges and apprehending the offenders </li><li>Testifying in court proceedings </li></ul> <p>Special Investigators are also required to be familiar with, learn to recognize, document, and report violations of insurance or securities regulations involving insurance producers, securities brokers, insurance agencies, or other entities and persons doing business in the insurance industry.</p> <p>The Iowa Insurance Division offers a strong team culture and a respect for work-life balance. Applicants must state on their application that they have graduated from an accredited academy.</p> <p>AND</p> <p>987 Certified Law Enforcement Officer:</p> <p>Certified Law Enforcement Officer is a certification through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) or a law enforcement training facility approved by ILEA.Graduation and certification from an academy approved by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), and experience equal to two years of full-time law enforcement work as a sworn officer.</p> <p>For additional information, please click on this link to view the job description.All applicants must be United States citizens and must be able to successfully pass a background investigation, psychological testing, and thorough medical examination as a condition of accepting a position in this job class.</p> <p>All applicants must have served as a sworn law enforcement officer with a minimum of two years of criminal investigation experience. If an applicant is not recognized by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) as a currently certified law enforcement officer, then the applicant must successfully obtain a current certification recognized by ILEA as a condition of accepting this position.</p>
