<p>Job Description:</p> <p>POSITION TITLE: Evening/Weekend Reference & Instruction Librarian</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: Library Learning Commons (LLC)</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Dean of Library Learning Commons</p> <p>POSITION STATUS: This is an MCCC/MTA full-time, Grade 5, unit position with benefits, nights and weekends required.</p> <p>SCHEDULE: This position works Tuesday - Saturday, 2nd shift (T/W/Th: noon - 8pm, F/Sa: 9am - 5pm) during the academic term. Schedule varies between terms, summers, and some holidays.</p> <p>PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River, MA</p> <p>SALARY: Salary range - $69,821-83,011. Starting salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.</p> <p>STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Evening/Weekend Reference & Instruction Librarian provides professional library services to Bristol Community College students, faculty, and staff and coordinates library operations evenings and weekends. Other essential duties include the provision of reference services, the design and delivery of information literacy instruction, and assisting researchers in the use of print/electronic resources. The position works in collaboration with a geographically distributed team located at four locations throughout Bristol's service area, providing research, tutoring, and writing support to foster student success while supporting Bristol's mission and goals. This position is located at Bristol's Fall River Campus. Occasional travel to other locations to provide information literacy instruction evenings and/or weekends is expected.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Provides information literacy instruction and collaboratively contributes to the ongoing development of the information literacy instruction program and curriculum. </li><li>Develops innovative instructional content and strategies to educate students, faculty, staff, and the community in accessing and evaluating information resources utilizing a variety of tools. </li><li>Conducts orientation sessions, tours, and classroom introductions to library services/resources. </li><li>Provides general reference assistance to library users via multiple mediums including, chat, email, Zoom, Canvas, LibGuides, and in-person. </li><li>Promotes the LLC and serves as the liaison to one or more academic areas. </li><li>Oversees library services evenings and weekends (Fall River LLC) in collaboration with the Dean, and other LLC staff. Ensures consistency in the application of library procedures and policies. Works within an assigned budget. </li><li>Supervises and coordinates assigned staff (i.e., instructs staff in performance of duties according to established standards; plans and assigns the work of others and allocates personnel; conducts staff meetings, assists in interviewing and hiring new employees). </li><li>Helps develop the library collection to support curricula, course requirements, and assignments of the college. </li><li>Compiles statistics on usage of various library services/resources. </li><li>Fosters a comfortable, welcoming environment in the LLC conducive to studying and learning. </li><li>Maintains LLC facilities and assists with the use of library equipment. </li><li>Maintains professional knowledge of information and trends in library and related technology fields and recommends new ideas for efficiency and the delivery of effective library services. </li><li>Performs related duties as directed. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICAITONS:</p> <p>NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Library Science, Library & Information Science, or closely related field.* </li><li>Three (3) years experience and/or training that includes library operations, library information systems, reference services, bibliographic instruction, circulation services, and cataloging. </li><li>Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff. </li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Reliable transportation for travel to and from meetings, trainings, or campus and community locations, as required. </li><li>An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience shall be considered. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>One year of experience in an academic library designing and delivering information literacy instruction. </li><li>One year of experience performing circulation and other functions in Koha or similar integrated library system. </li><li>Professional training or academic background in Science, Nursing, or an Allied Health field. </li><li>Experience teaching online and utilizing common academic technologies (e.g., learning management system (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.), LibGuides, video conferencing (Zoom), etc.). </li><li>Supervisory experience. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action:</p> <p>Bristol Community College is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, age, veteran or military status, genetic information, gender identity, or sexual orientation in its programs and activities as required by Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and other applicable statutes and college policies.
