The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Department Summary:</p> <p>Michigan Housing is an actively engaged unit within Student Life Auxiliary Services within the Division of Student Life. M Housing serves approximately 11,500 students: 9,100 undergraduate and 2,400 graduate and professional students and their families. Although first-year students are not required to live on campus, historically 96-98% of all new first-year students choose to live on. Currently, the M Housing portfolio consists of 19 residential facilities that include traditional residence halls, apartments, and other living options located in communities on north and central campuses in Ann Arbor. In partnership with Michigan Dining, there are 9 dining halls and 9 retail operations embedded within the residence halls that serve approximately 4 million meals per year. Beginning Fall 2024, M Housing partnered with other units and departments within Student Life to support the residential experience for approximately 25 U-M students on the Marygrove campus, located in Detroit. In Fall 2026, five new residence halls housing 2,300 undergraduate students and a new 822-seat dining facility will open to continue M Housing's strong tradition of providing affordable housing options and services for U-M students. In addition to supporting the academic mission of the University, M Housing creates and sustains diverse learning-centered residential communities that ultimately enhance the residential experience.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Training Specialist, Student Staff Selection and Training leads the selection, training and development for student staff in undergraduate, graduate, and professional communities within diverse residential communities housing over 12,000 students in residence halls and apartments. Specifically, the Training Specialist works under the direction of the Assistant Director of Student Staff Training and Selection to support the recruitment, selection, and training for over 300 undergraduate and graduate student leaders who serve in student leadership roles in the residential communities.</p> <p>This position is benefits eligible and work is 40 hours per week, with some evenings and weekends required.</p> <p>Responsibilities*</p> <p>Selection of Student Leaders (40%)</p> <ul> <li>The Training Specialist designs marketing, recruitment, and selection of a diverse and talented pool of student leaders, while working in collaboration with relevant campus partners. </li><li>Supports the application, interview, selection, and placement process for 300+ student leaders. </li><li>Develops and implements recruitment and marketing strategies for Residence Education student leader positions. </li><li>Coordinates electronic management and migration of personnel files within shared database. </li></ul> <p>Develops the annual feedback processes for student leaders under the direction of the Assistant Director of Student Staff Training and Development.</p> <ul> <li>Maintains ongoing communication with permanent staff involved in supervising student leaders to support consistent implementation of selection process. </li><li>Manages electronic communication and email correspondence for ResStaff, including sending timely updates, responding to inquiries, and maintaining organized email records to support effective team operations. </li></ul> <p>Training of Student Leaders (40%)</p> <ul> <li>Creates, designs, and coordinates training and ongoing development for student leaders to support their ability to assist residents and foster inclusive, engaged communities. </li><li>Assess training needs to identify gaps and ensure student leaders acquire knowledge, skills, and awareness of campus resources and procedures. </li><li>Creates and maintains an online repository for training materials and resources for student leaders. </li><li>Coordinates training programs at the start of each academic term and onboarding processes are in place for student leaders starting mid-year or during off-peak times. </li><li>Provides leadership, guidance, and facilitation support to supervisors of student leaders to promote meaningful and impactful training experiences. </li><li>Presents to internal Residence Education staff to enhance training delivery and innovation. </li><li>Supports assessment efforts related to training effectiveness while working under the direction of the Assistant Director to evaluate and improve training outcomes. </li><li>Assist the Assistant Director of Selection and Training in the training process of student leaders. </li></ul> <p>Department Leadership (20%)</p> <ul> <li>Works collaboratively with Director, Associate Directors, Assistant Directors, Program Managers, Hall Directors, and Administrative Staff in Residence Education and other permanent staff in Housing to ensure proper communication and alignment related to recruitment, hiring, selection, and training of student leaders. </li><li>Represents the student leader program within the Division of Student Life and on-campus, including at recruitment events, student organization fairs, welcome week events, and related functions. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in related fields of study, specifically Higher Education, Social Work, or social sciences. </li><li>1 year full-time experience in student affairs and/or related educational services work </li><li>Experience developing administrative procedures and training others. </li><li>Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>Experience in student supervision/advising and program leadership </li><li>Familiarity with Human Resources processes and practices. </li><li>Proven ability to lead projects with attention to detail and build collaborative relationships. </li></ul> <p>Modes of Work</p> <p>Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
