<p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>Under direction performs work of moderate difficulty in distributing and collecting sample bottles, assuring samples are collected appropriately, maintain records of samples including but not limited to chain of custody and sample results, delivering notice of sample results as required per regulations, maintaining clean working areas, cleaning glassware and utensils, performing laboratory tests, and in maintaining routine records; performs related duties as required.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Delivers lead sample bottles to and pick up of same from consumer's place of residence. Assures timely notification of results to consumer. </li><li>Collects various other samples from throughout the distribution system and plant facilities. </li><li>Sets up samples for suspended solids and other chemical analyses; assures proper storage and disposal of samples and chemicals prepared and/or used. </li><li>Operates and monitors lab equipment, such as pH meter, analytical balance, microwave moisture analyzer, auto clave, centrifuge. </li><li>Organizes and maintains routine records. </li><li>Under the supervision of a chemist/bacteriologist performs routine chemical determinations using standardized laboratory procedures. </li><li>Collects samples and obtains supplies as directed. </li><li>Cleans laboratory equipment, utensils, and distillation equipment and trains student interns on an as needed basis. </li><li>Performs other related work as instructed. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Chemistry, chemicals and related testing and monitoring instrumentation </li><li>Preparation and reporting requirements of laboratory work </li><li>Laboratory procedures </li><li>Basic Mathematics </li></ul> <p>Skill in:</p> <ul> <li>Interpretation and following of oral and written instructions </li><li>Working carefully with potentially dangerous organisms, substances and valuable equipment </li><li>Operating a PC </li><li>Good communication and customer service </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Present information orally and in writing </li><li>Analyze business processes and develop recommendations for improvement </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Associate's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Pre-Pharmacy or Technical Studies provided technical studies are science focused </li></ul> <p>Additional or Special Requirements: </p> <ul> <li>Must possess a valid driver's license </li><li>Must be able to wear safety equipment (face mask, gloves, glasses) etc. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Six (6) months of laboratory experience in preparing samples and conducting simple, routine tests. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>The physical demands described within this job description must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This employee will occasionally walk, sit, stand, lift, push, pull, drag and/or carry up to 15 pounds. The employee will constantly walk-in all-weather conditions. Occasional stooping and crouching may occur with this position. Speaking and listening are constant essential functions of this position.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The work environment described within this job description will be encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
