<p>Employment Type:</p> <p>Part time</p> <p>Shift:</p> <p>Description:</p> <p>GENERAL SUMMARY:</p> <p>Designated as leader for specified nursing area, its patient population, and assigned staff. Assumes 24-hour responsibility, authority and accountability for all patient-care activities, unit operation, staff function and staff development. Leads and promotes evidence-based practice and research among unit leaders and staff.</p> <p>? Promotes best practice implementation on unit.</p> <p>? Works independently with limited direction from the nurse executive using the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, nursing standards and professional judgment.</p> <p>? Utilizes delegation skills effectively.</p> <p>? Directs the recruitment and retention activities on the unit.</p> <p>? Conducts the performance appraisal process.</p> <p>? Directs health care members (i.e., registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians, etc.) in the delivery of safe and effective patient care.</p> <p>? Operates unit within approved budget.</p> <p>? Facilitates efficient operation of unit activities.</p> <p>? Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for employees' files and patients' records.</p> <p>? Administers nursing care to patients; includes assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating the patient's care plan in coordination with the physician.</p> <p>? Directs/provides emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).</p> <p>? Develops an annual operational plan (including scope of service) integrated with Mercy's strategic plan and related departments' operational plans in order to efficiently provide services.</p> <p>? Develops, implements and periodically reviews all policies and procedures that guide and support the assigned services. These include, but are not limited to, Joint Commission requirements, federal and state regulations, regulatory standards, etc.</p> <p>? Develops and maintains departmental staffing plan for all departments supervised, detailing appropriate employee classifications and qualifications consistent with the department's operational plan, projected volumes, patient/acuity and other relevant indicators. Participates in human resource planning providing recommendations for staffing, proactive recruitment and long-term needs. Assure compliance with staffing plan.</p> <p>? Continuously assess and improves the department's performance based on, but not limited to, the department's quality plan monitors and customer/employee satisfaction data.</p> <p>? Supervises assigned management staff. Provides necessary education, orientation and support to management team.</p> <p>? Develops annual operating and capital budgets, monitors and analyzes performance and productivity and implements necessary corrective plans. Collaborates with other departments in budget preparation, determining capital priorities, monitoring and analyzing trends. Utilizes budget information in management decision-making.</p> <p>? Provides for the means and methods to assure competent patient care to the patient population served by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, using demonstrated knowledge feedback and appropriately adapting procedures.</p> <p>? Supports and abides by all Mercy policies, including safety policies and practices.</p> <p>? Participates in national professional and related organizations to ensure current knowledge of operations.</p> <p>? Maintains open and positive communication with staff, physicians, other hospital departments and others.</p> <p>? Performs other responsibilities as requested by nurse executive.</p> <p>MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>? Delegates orientation/education for staff, students and other hospital and community organizations.</p> <p>? Adjusts staffing to provide coverage based on patient census/acuity.</p> <p>MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:</p> <ul> <li>Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa. </li><li>Bachelor degree in nursing required, or actively in pursuit of BSN degree (accepted into a BSN Program and/or currently enrolled). Expected to take at least six credits per year at the CNO or Market Director's discretion for exception. </li></ul> <p>? Minimum 3-5 years clinical experience.</p> <p>? Prior proven experience and expertise in management, having had a leadership position for at least 1 year.</p> <p>? Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter - Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.</p> <p>? BLS certified by the end of the orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks).</p> <p>PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: (Constant = 67%-100% of workday, Frequent = 34%-66% of workday, Occasional = 33% or less of workday)</p> <p>CONSTANT</p> <p>? Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.</p> <p>? Standing: Maintaining an upright position.</p> <p>? Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks.</p> <p>? Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position -would include transfer of a patient from bed to cart/chair.</p> <p>? Fingering: Writing, preparing medications, changing dressings, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.</p> <p>? Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, those activities in which the worker must convey detailed or important those activities in which the worker must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.</p> <p>? Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal range; ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when auscultating and percussing.</p> <p>? Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motion) of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.</p> <p>FREQUENT</p> <p>? Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.</p> <p>OCCASIONAL</p> <p>? Balancing: Maintaining equilibrium to prevent falling.</p> <p>? Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist (for example, obtaining supplies from low shelves).</p> <p>? Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest or kneel.</p> <p>? Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.</p> <p>? Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.</p> <p>? Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.</p> <p>? Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips and palms.</p> <p>? Climbing: Stairs, stools, ramps</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>If a patient is unable to function independently, a mechanical/assistive device and/or additional personnel must be utilized. If an object requires lifting > 50 lbs., additional equipment/personnel must also be utilized.</p> <p>Heavy work: Exerting up to 65 lbs. push/pull (force to move frequently, and lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and lifting up to 40 lbs. frequently, and lifting up to 20 lbs. constantly, to move patient and/or objects.</p> <p>VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>? Ability to read management reports or other pertinent printed material.</p> <p>? Ability to include inspection during patient assessment.</p> <p>? Ability to accurately read measurements on patient related equipment, some examples include thermometers, mechanical gauges, glucometers, IV pumps and computer monitor displays.</p> <p>INTELLECTUAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>? Adaptability to accepting responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity.</p> <p>? Adaptability to performing under stress when confronted with emergent, critical, unusual or dangerous situations or situations in which working speed and sustained attention are make-or-break aspects of the job.</p> <p>? Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.</p> <p>? Adaptability to situations requiring the precise attainment of set limits, tolerances or standards.</p> <p>? Ability to maintain both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients and visitors and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a hospital work environment.</p> <p>EQUIPMENT/TOOLS:</p> <p>?
