<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Highland Elementary School</p> <p>Cheshire Public Schools</p> <p>Elementary Physical Education Teacher (K-6)</p> <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:</p> <p>Cheshire Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Physical Education teacher to join the Highland Elementary community. This role involves delivering high-quality instruction to K-6 students, fostering physical literacy, social-emotional growth, and healthy lifestyle habits. The ideal candidate will support Cheshire's district mission to "inspire lifelong learning and service to others" by creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned instruction based on Connecticut and SHAPE America guidelines and the Cheshire Wellness scope and sequence. </li><li>Promote physical literacy, teamwork, personal responsibility, and lifelong wellness through meaningful activities. </li><li>Integrate complex thinking strategies such as problem-solving, decision-making, and self-assessment into daily instruction. </li><li>Incorporate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) practices to build confidence, empathy, cooperation, and resilience. </li><li>Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities, while supporting high-quality instruction for every child. </li><li>Use formative and summative assessments to track student progress and communicate effectively with families. </li><li>Maintain accurate records in compliance with district policies; ensure a safe and well-maintained learning environment. </li><li>Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and families to support interdisciplinary learning and wellness initiatives. </li><li>Participate in professional development and contribute to a positive school culture through events, committees, and community engagement. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Connecticut certification in 043 Health Education (PreK-12) and 044 Physical Education (PreK-12). </li><li>Experience with elementary-aged students and knowledge of best practices in K-6 physical education preferred. </li><li>Strong communication and collaboration skills with a commitment to inclusive, respectful teaching practices. </li><li>Flexible team player dedicated to student-centered learning, complex thinking, and high-quality instruction. </li></ul> <p>Salary:</p> <p>In accordance with the Agreement Between Cheshire Board of Education and the Education Association of Cheshire.</p> <p>Benefit:</p> <p>Children of a teacher who does not reside in Cheshire may attend the Cheshire Public Schools so long as the teacher continues to teach in Cheshire and pays 50% of the published regular education tuition cost, plus any additional costs incurred by the District regarding their child.</p> <p>To Apply:</p> <p>Please apply online at www.applitrack.com/cheshire/onlineapp. Please include all materials (cover letter, resume, three letters of recommendation, certification, transcripts and praxis scores) that are required for the application process.
