We are dedicated to protecting the state of South Carolina, and we would love to have you as a member of our team!</p> <p>Science | Service | Sustainability</p> <p>Under limited supervision, serves as a Regional Onsite Wastewater Technical Lead. Performs priority inspections, evaluations, and complaint investigations that require subject-matter expertise, urgency, and expediency for the Bureau of Regional and Laboratory Services Onsite Wastewater program. Performs training duties as needed to support program goals. Provides subject-matter expertise in the Onsite Wastewater (OSWW) program.</p> <p>Job Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Conducts initial evaluations of proposed sites for the purpose of issuing onsite wastewater permits. Permits or participates in permitting suitable sites according to state regulations and policies. When time frames are met in assigned area, perform a minimum of three (3) audits for each OSWW inspector working in the assigned area quarterly. Assists with training staff on this task as required. </li><li>Conducts second opinion visits on requested sites. Trains staff on this task. </li><li>Reviews draft construction permits and approvals to operate to ensure standard operating procedures (SOP) and regulatory compliance. Trains staff on this task. </li><li>Conducts inspections of installed onsite wastewater systems to ensure compliance with state regulations. Investigates complaints, determines validity, makes recommendations for corrective actions, and takes appropriate enforcement action all in accordance with state laws, regulations, agency policies, and standard operating procedures. Trains staff on this task. </li><li>Performs other duties as required, which includes, but is not limited to, attending periodic staff meetings and training. </li></ul> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>A bachelor's degree in a related technical field. </li><li>OR an associate degree in a related technical field and three (3) years of environmental health or related experience. </li><li>OR a high school diploma or GED and five (5) years of environmental health or related experience. </li></ul> <p>Note: Degrees in a related technical field include, but are not limited to, Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, soil science, environmental science, mathematics, etc.</p> <p>Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.</p> <p>Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application are encouraged to upload an unofficial copy of the transcript as an attachment to the application. Please note that the agency may require an official, certified copy of the transcript or diploma prior to hiring.</p> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Able to operate a manual soil auger to a depth of six feet. </li><li>Must have valid state driver's license: and ability to operate personal and state-owned vehicles. </li><li>Able to provide outstanding customer service in a fast-paced environment. </li><li>Excellent communication and organizational skills. </li><li>Work effectively in a team-oriented environment and encourage positive working relationships with coworkers, industry, and government officials. </li><li>Work independently in a field environment. </li><li>Ability to successfully complete prescribed technical coursework and pass any test relevant to the position within the probationary period or trial period. </li><li>Work in all reasonable weather conditions and access non-traditional work environments. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Familiarity with onsite wastewater methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). </li><li>Training or experience in describing or classifying soils. </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). </li></ul> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>This job posting will fill three (3) Onsite Wastewater Technical Lead positions throughout the state.
