This position involves performing testing, processing blood products, and maintaining compliance with the department's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The technologist works both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced laboratory setting while also assisting in the training of new employees and students.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Blood Bank Operations</p> <p>Process specimens, fill orders, issue blood products, and minimize wastage.</p> <p>Handle phone inquiries and collaborate with other departments.</p> <p>Recognize and respond appropriately to emergent situations.</p> <p>Laboratory Testing & Quality Control</p> <p>Perform critical tests, including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening, compatibility testing, direct antiglobulin tests, and transfusion reaction investigations.</p> <p>Maintain an efficient workflow, integrating STAT requests with routine testing.</p> <p>Operate and troubleshoot Blood Bank instrumentation, conduct quality control (QC), and maintain equipment.</p> <p>Blood Component Processing</p> <p>Comply with cGMPs for manufacturing and modifying blood components.</p> <p>Ensure accurate inventory management of blood products, tissue, and supplies.</p> <p>Reference Lab & Problem Resolution</p> <p>Perform advanced serological procedures and resolve basic serological discrepancies.</p> <p>Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely task completion.</p> <p>Training & Education</p> <p>Assist in training new employees, students, and medical staff.</p> <p>Stay current with required competencies and continuing education.</p> <p>Professionalism & Collaboration</p> <p>Foster effective communication and teamwork with colleagues and hospital staff.</p> <p>Uphold departmental standards for professionalism and hospital policies.</p> <p>Safety & Compliance</p> <p>Adhere to hospital and regulatory safety protocols, including OSHA regulations, hazardous waste management, and radiation safety.</p> <p>Additional Duties</p> <p>Participate in department improvement projects.</p> <p>Perform other duties as assigned to support Blood Bank operations.</p> <p>This role is essential in ensuring safe and effective transfusion services while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and laboratory excellence.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ol> <li> <p>Requires Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related science. 2. MT(ASCP), BB(ASCP) or equivalent certification or eligible.</p> </li><li> <p>Successful completion of the hospital's Trustworthiness and Reliability assessment. Unescorted access to the Blood Bank Irradiators is a requirement of the position.
