<p>Chaplain Claflin University - Orangeburg, South Carolina Position Summary Claflin University invites applications for the position of Chaplain, a spiritual leader responsible for fostering the religious, spiritual, and ethical life of the University community. The Chaplain provides pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and leadership for programs that support the holistic development of students, faculty, and staff. The Chaplain works collaboratively across campus to cultivate an inclusive environment that honors diverse faith traditions and encourages reflection, service, and moral leadership consistent with the mission and values of Claflin University. The position serves as a visible presence on campus, providing counseling, coordinating religious programming, and supporting the overall well-being of the university community. The Chaplain reports to the Vice President for Student Development and Services and works closely with campus partners to advance the spiritual life of the institution Essential Duties and Responsibilities Spiritual Leadership and Worship Plan, coordinate, and lead campus worship services, prayer gatherings, and religious observances. Organize and oversee spiritual programming including Bible studies, faith discussions, and religious celebrations. Encourage spiritual exploration and ethical reflection among members of the campus community. Pastoral Care and Counseling Provide pastoral counseling and spiritual guidance to students, faculty, and staff. Offer support during times of grief, crisis, or personal challenge. Maintain confidentiality and provide compassionate care to individuals from diverse religious and spiritual backgrounds. Campus Programming and Student Engagement Develop and implement programs that promote spiritual growth, leadership, and service. Advise and mentor student religious organizations and campus ministry groups. Facilitate interfaith dialogue and initiatives that foster understanding across religious traditions. Collaboration and Community Engagement Serve as a liaison between the University and local faith communities, clergy, and religious organizations. Partner with campus departments to support student well-being, ethical leadership, and community engagement initiatives. Participate in campus events, committees, and programs that support the University's mission and community values. Administrative and Institutional Support Coordinate campus ministry initiatives and manage associated resources and budgets as assigned. Maintain regular office hours and respond to requests for spiritual care and support. Prepare reports and assessments related to campus ministry activities. Perform other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Divinity, Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field. </li><li>Ordination or endorsement from The United Methodist Church. </li><li>Demonstrated experience in pastoral care, campus ministry, chaplaincy, or a related setting. </li><li>Ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, religious, and spiritual backgrounds. </li><li>Strong interpersonal, counseling, and communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Strong understanding of spiritual formation and pastoral care. </li><li>Ability to develop meaningful programming that supports the spiritual and ethical growth of students. </li><li>Excellent public speaking and facilitation skills. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a diverse university environment. </li><li>Sensitivity to issues related to student well-being, identity, and personal development. </li><li>Work Environment </li></ul> <p>The University Chaplain works in a dynamic campus environment that requires regular interaction with students, faculty, staff, and community partners. The role may require occasional evening or weekend hours to support campus programming, worship services, and special events.</p>
