<p>2026-2027 School Year</p> <p>Somerset County Public Schools is accepting applications for the position of Varsity Assistant Football Coach for the 2026-2027 school year at Washington Academy & High School</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Varsity Assistant Football Coach is responsible for the leadership, supervision, and administration of the school's varsity football program. This role ensures a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate athletic program that aligns with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), COMAR, MPSSAA regulations, and local Board of Education policies.</p> <p>Essential Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Plan, organize, and supervise all aspects of the varsity football program, including practices, competitions, and team activities</p> </li><li> <p>Provide leadership and oversight to assistant coaches, ensuring compliance with district and state requirements</p> </li><li> <p>Promote student-athlete safety, sportsmanship, academic accountability, and positive school representation</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure appropriate supervision of student-athletes at all times, including during travel and off-campus events</p> </li><li> <p>Implement and enforce MPSSAA rules, eligibility requirements, and athletic code of conduct standards</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with the Athletic Director and school administration regarding scheduling, supervision, and program needs</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure required documentation, certifications, and trainings for all coaching staff are completed and maintained</p> </li><li> <p>Address program-related concerns in accordance with school system procedures</p> </li><li> <p>Perform additional duties related to the football program as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration</p> </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Demonstrated knowledge of football fundamentals, rules, and safe coaching practices</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to effectively supervise students and coaching staff in a school-based athletic environment</p> </li><li> <p>Willingness and ability to complete all required pre-service and annual trainings, including but not limited to:</p> </li><li> <p>Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition and Reporting</p> </li><li> <p>Safe Schools / School Safety training</p> </li><li> <p>CPR, AED, and First Aid</p> </li><li> <p>Concussion Awareness and Management</p> </li><li> <p>Any additional MSDE, MPSSAA, or district-required coaching certifications</p> </li><li> <p>Successful completion of required background checks and clearance requirements in accordance with Maryland law and Board policy</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Prior head or assistant coaching experience at the high school level</p> </li><li> <p>Experience working with adolescents in an educational or athletic setting</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of MPSSAA rules and eligibility requirements</p> </li></ul> <p>Compensation</p> <p>This is a stipend position. Full stipend payment is contingent upon completion of all assigned duties, required trainings, and the full athletic season, in accordance with Board-approved stipend schedules and district procedures.</p>
