<p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Writing Tutor will tutor students in all types of college-level writing. Tutor hours vary. A schedule will be built using the tutor's preferences and the needs of the Tutoring Center. 5-10 tutoring hours are required each week while the college is in session, with the potential for additional hours after an initial trial period. Tutoring appointments will be offered in-person, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tutors may also have the opportunity to work as an embedded tutor in one or more writing classrooms.</p> <p>Responsibilities and Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Tutor students in key concepts </li><li>Review classroom topics and assignments </li><li>Support students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, and research </li><li>Provide students positive and constructive feedback </li><li>Demonstrate academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments </li></ul> <p>Required Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree in English, writing, journalism, or related field </li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff </li><li>Experience working with students with disabilities at the post-secondary level preferred </li></ul> <p>Key Skills / Knowledge:</p> <p>o Oral and written communication skills</p> <p>o Knowledge of computer programs including the Microsoft Office Suite</p> <p>o Understanding of strategies to tutor neurodivergent students</p> <p>o Instructional knowledge regarding academic skills and strategies</p> <p>o Ability to utilize college-endorsed software for record-keeping and scheduling</p> <p>o Ability to perform the job in person</p> <p>Mitchell College does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, political affiliation, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, disability and genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization or other non-merit factors.</p>
