You'll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world.</p> <p>A Day in the Life</p> <p>The Director, U.S. State Government Affairs will serve as a key member of Medtronic's U.S. Government Affairs team, leading state government affairs activities in a multi-state region and reporting to the Head of U.S. Government Affairs. While the territory may fluctuate over time, this role currently covers the Eastern, Southern, and Mid-Atlantic states. The position will play an integral role in helping Medtronic continue to build a best-in-class government affairs organization.</p> <p>Location of Position:</p> <p>This position is remote and will require approximately 25% travel.</p> <p>While this is a remote position not located full-time at a physical Medtronic site, the candidate hired will be required to reside within the territory - with a preference in Washington, DC or in or near a Medtronic facility location, which includes CT, FL, MA, and TN - and travel throughout the covered region.</p> <p>Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Lead Medtronic's state government affairs activities in the Eastern, Southern, and Mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S. </li><li>Work closely with key internal partners, including facility leadership within territory, to understand business objectives; develop, implement and drive engagement and advocacy strategies in region to assist in achieving these objectives. </li><li>Represent Medtronic with key external stakeholders, including local and state government officials, trade associations, industry partners, and patient and provider organizations to advance the company's objectives and strategic priorities. </li><li>Track and analyze legislative, regulatory, and political developments in territory that impact the company and provide timely updates and strategic insights to internal stakeholders on emerging issues and opportunities. </li><li>Monitor and assess political, policy and reputational developments in territory, recommend and, as appropriate, drive mitigation strategies. </li><li>Work with colleagues throughout the Government Affairs function to develop and support enterprise-wide strategies in the U.S. </li><li>Ensure compliance with state lobbying disclosure laws and ethics regulations. </li><li>Oversee external consultants or contract lobbyists. </li><li>This person will be expected to travel periodically. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Must Have: Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of government affairs experience or a minimum of 8+ years of government affairs experience with an advanced degree; </li><li>7+ years of people, program or project management experience </li></ul> <p>Nice to Have</p> <ul> <li>Advanced degree </li><li>Demonstrated experience in developing and executing multi-state government-level engagement and advocacy strategies aligned with business objectives, with a strong record of proven success </li><li>Ability to assess complex political, regulatory, and business environments and make well-informed decisions that balance risk, compliance, and business objectives. </li><li>Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, especially regarding policy development, analysis and advocacy. Must be able to clearly and succinctly convey complex information to varied audiences, including senior executives. </li><li>Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, including demonstrated network-building skills with policymakers, trade associations, patient advocacy organizations and other stakeholders. </li><li>Exceptional advocacy skills with a proven record of successfully influencing policy outcomes, including through coalition building. </li><li>Demonstrated experience working directly with senior executives and government officials. </li><li>Ability to work independently and successfully prioritize competing tasks in a fast-paced environment. </li><li>Experience in medical technology, life sciences industry or healthcare strongly preferred </li><li>Previous work in a state legislature, executive branch office, or political campaign </li><li>Ability to effectively navigate reputational crises or high-stakes policy challenges </li><li>Proven record of success as part of a team </li><li>Experience working with a political action committee and grassroots advocacy program </li><li>Knowledge of federal healthcare policy and its interplay with state-level implementation </li></ul> <p>Physical Job Requirements</p> <p>The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position, but they are not an exhaustive list of all the required responsibilities and skills of this position.</p> <p>The physical demands described within the Responsibilities section of this job description are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. PR) locations (USD):$192,800.00 - $289,200.00</p> <p>This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).</p> <p>This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.</p> <p>The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).</p> <p>The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).</p> <p>The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).</p> <p>Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.
