The incumbent in this position will apply knowledge of physics, mathematics, and regulatory principles related to ionizing radiation to support the State's nuclear emergency response plan, including conducting operational checks, servicing, and minor repairs on radiation detection, environmental sampling, communication, and dosimetry equipment.\n\n\nThe incumbent will serve as a member of the Department's nuclear emergency response organization and may act as an on-call duty officer during emergencies on a 24/7 recall basis. The position may require evening or weekend work and the ability to assume roles within the Agency's Incident Command System, including serving as a liaison representing the Maryland Department of the Environment with the Maryland Department of Emergency Management and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The incumbent may also enter areas where radioactive materials or radiation-producing devices are used and must follow all radiation control measures, while also serving as a technical lead for radiation modeling training and coordinating the Department's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP).\n\n\nThis position involves the following working conditions:\n•\tExposure to uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings\n•\tField visits may include deployment during nuclear emergencies to collect field samples in extreme weather conditions while wearing Tyvek personal protective equipment.\n•\tExposure to hazardous conditions that may result in injury.\n•\tField visits may include measuring radiation levels and assisting staff with radiation monitoring during emergency situations.\n•\tWork involves special physical demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more, climbing ladders, etc.?\n•\tRequired use of protective equipment-such as goggles, gloves, and masks-during site visits.\n\n\nThe incumbent will be required to drive a State vehicle. If you hold an out-of-state driver's license, you must provide a certified copy of your driving record from the issuing state's? Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of hire. All individuals must maintain a driver's license with no more than 5 points on their driving record to operate a State vehicle.\n\n\n\n\n\n</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Experience:?Eight years of experience performing in performing the recognition, evaluation and control of radiological hazards to employees and the general public.\nNotes:\n1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from?an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 credit?hours in mathematical, physical or biological sciences and four years?of experience performing in performing the recognition, evaluation?and control of radiological hazards to employees and the general?public for the required experience.\n2.?Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree in radiation safety, radiological health, health physics or a related radiation control field from an accredited college or university for five years of the required experience.\n3.?Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree in radiation safety, radiological health, health physics, or related radiation control field from an accredited college or university for six years of the required experience.\n4.?Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree in mathematical, biological or physical science from an accredited college or university for five years of the required experience.\n5.?Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate in health physics, nuclear physics, radiation management or related field of radiological health from an accredited college or university for seven years of the required experience. \n6.?Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service?experience as a commissioned officer in Health and Medical?Physicist classifications or Health and Medical Physicist specialty codes in the Physicist field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\n</p> <p>DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>\nPlease note that your answers to the supplemental questionnaire must correspond to the information provided on your application to receive credit.\n\nIt is preferred that the selected candidate has the following:?\n•?
