<p>Incumbent is responsible for performing the essential job functions as assigned. The main objective of a Deputy Clerk is to receive, prepare and process the legal documentation necessary for all case types in the Delaware County Probate Court. Incumbent will also interact with members of the public, law enforcement and government agencies either in person, by telephone or electronically. Incumbent reports to the Clerical Services Department Head and Probate Office Manager.</p> <p>High School Education or equivalent is required; completion of a secondary education is preferred plus 1 year of work related training or experience in an office environment with basic working knowledge of computer related software, specifically Microsoft Office. Work involves moderately complex, relatively standardized tasks, processes and operations following established laws and procedures.</p> <ul> <li>Ability to provide quality customer service; </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; </li><li>Ability to deal with irate and upset clients; </li><li>Ability to be cognizant of and provide effective service to persons with cultural, racial, religious and socioeconomic differences; </li><li>Ability to function in a stressful, fast paced environment; </li><li>Ability to properly use grammar and correctly spell; </li><li>Ability to type accurately at a minimum of 35 words per minute; </li><li>Ability to work effectively with little supervision; </li><li>Ability to work and collaborate in team workgroup situations; </li><li>Ability to follow instructions of the Probate/Juvenile Court Procedure Manual; </li><li>Ability to read and follow policies of the Probate/Juvenile Court Policy Manual; </li><li>Ability to show initiative and innovation; </li><li>Knowledge of computers and related peripheral equipment; </li><li>Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook; </li><li>Knowledge of legal terminology and language; and </li><li>Knowledge of Ohio Revised Code, Court Administrative Rules, and Local Rules. </li><li>Processes the intake of applications, motions, petitions and other filings in matters in the Probate Court; </li><li>Prepares and/or creates various legal documents, e.g. complaints, waivers, appointment orders, summons, judgment entries and orders, etc.; </li><li>Serves as Assignment Commissioner to schedule hearings as needed; </li><li>Receives filings and records date/time using official court timekeeping device; </li><li>Receives, screens and directs incoming communications to appropriate person and/or department; </li><li>Maintains positive working relationship with persons of diverse cultural, racial, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds; </li><li>Assists clients by providing information as to resources for assistance in filing or completing paperwork; </li><li>Greets and directs clients to appropriate persons, departments or assists in seating courtroom; </li><li>Performs case management functions using case management software; docketing, scheduling, entering data provide by departmental staff and other necessary functions; </li><li>Assists others as directed, including staff who are absent to complete all clerical functions in a timely manner; </li><li>Updates and inventories Probate Court files, manually and electronically; </li><li>Manages the docket for the judicial officer and communicates changes to the appropriate personnel and parties; </li><li>Provides other assistance to judicial officer as needed; </li><li>Performs other tasks and/or assignments, including assisting Juvenile Court, as directed; and </li><li>Process payments to the Court, including; cash, check and electronic payments. </li></ul>
