During the performance of your assigned duties, you will interact on a daily or weekly basis with section and branch employees, division program staff, as well as members of the general public.</p> <p>Holders of the Forestry Program Specialist position will complete tasks such as:</p> <ul> <li>Conducts and coordinates activities related to the harvesting, grading, packing, and shipping of tree seedlings to ensure quality control. </li><li>Collects and plants seeds, establishes and maintains improved seed orchards, monitors seedling health and vigor, and conducts field research on tree improvement. </li><li>Works with the division's state forest and forest health specialists (as well as other forest-related entities), on improving the growth and health of tree species important to Kentucky. </li><li>Maintains pesticide applicators license and applies pesticides to nursery property as needed. </li><li>Monitors soil condition and applies irrigation. </li><li>Participates in wildfire suppression, prevention, and prescribed fire and participates in all-risk emergency response as needed. </li></ul> <p>Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:</p> <ul> <li>The ability to work independently. </li><li>Effective communication, organization, and documentation skills. </li><li>Proficient knowledge and use of information technology. </li><li>The ability to plan, implement, and manage nursery work assignments and activities. </li></ul> <p>EEC provides opportunities for development and upward movement. For more information on E-Verify, or if you believe that EEC has violated its E-Verify responsibilities, please contact Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at 888-897-7781 or https://www.e-verify.gov/</p> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <p>EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in forestry, natural or physical science.</p> <p>EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of professional experience in forest products utilization, forest health, tree nursery and tree improvement, urban and community forestry, wildfire prevention and control, forest management stewardship assistance, natural resource management, conservation or four years of professional experience as a forester.</p> <p>Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in forestry or related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.</p> <p>Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in forest products utilization, forest health, nursery and tree improvement, urban and community forestry, wildfire prevention and control, forest management and stewardship assistance or related will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this job classification. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possess and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Work includes both administrative duties, which may involve frequent contact with field personnel and other agencies, and field duties which involve outdoor work at the tree nursery or forestlands in general. Working outdoors may occur during adverse weather conditions.
