Come join us for the ride!</p> <p>Role overview</p> <p>As the Manager of the Engagement engineering team at CarGurus, you will lead a team of 6-7 engineers focused on building and optimizing communication channels that directly connect with car shoppers. This team powers our email, push notification, and SMS platforms, critical touchpoints that drive user engagement, trust, and long-term loyalty.</p> <p>In this role, you'll collaborate closely with stakeholders across Marketing, Data Analytics, Product Management and Engineering to deliver personalized, data-driven experiences that have measurable business impact. Your team's work will support a wide range of initiatives from real-time behavioral messaging to A/B testing frameworks, and you'll play a key role in guiding strategy, execution, and ongoing performance optimization.</p> <p>This is a high-impact position suited for a strong technical leader who is data-obsessed, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can seamlessly navigate evolving business priorities.</p> <p>What you'll do</p> <ul> <li>Lead and mentor a team of engineers, supporting technical execution, career development, and team health </li><li>Partner closely with Marketing and Analytics stakeholders to align on priorities, define success metrics, and deliver impactful messaging capabilities </li><li>Drive technical strategy and execution for the team's services, balancing speed, scalability, and data quality </li><li>Champion experimentation and performance tracking, ensuring everything shipped is measurable and iterated upon </li><li>Guide your team through evolving platform requirements, infrastructure changes, and cross-functional dependencies </li><li>Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement </li></ul> <p>What you'll bring</p> <ul> <li>6+ years of hands-on software design and development experience </li><li>2+ years of experience managing software development teams </li><li>Proven experience managing engineering teams or leading cross-functional technical projects </li><li>Strong stakeholder management skills, with a track record of effective collaboration across Marketing, Product, and Analytics </li><li>Analytical mindset with a passion for data; comfortable diving into metrics to assess performance, identify insights, and shape strategy </li><li>Strong software architecture skills across both front-end and back-end systems, with the ability to guide technical direction and ensure scalable, maintainable solutions </li><li>Familiarity with messaging technologies (email, SMS, push) and experimentation platforms is a plus </li><li>Experience working in agile environments with shifting priorities and a fast product cycle </li><li>Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical details into business value </li></ul> <p>Working at CarGurus</p> <p>We reward our Gurus' curiosity and passion with best-in-class benefits and compensation, including equity for all employees, both when they start and as they continue to grow with us.
