<p>Description</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <ul> <li>Advises patients and/or guarantors of their benefits, financial responsibilities and secures payment of patient's liability </li></ul> <p>Job Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Smiles and provides caring customer service </li><li>Determines patient's insurance benefits and eligibility requirements </li><li>Determines patient's precertification requirements </li><li>Explains insurance benefit information to patients </li><li>Provides patients with an estimated liability amount due </li><li>Explains how the financial responsibility was determined </li><li>Explains payment options for estimated patient liability </li><li>Secures payment of estimated patient liability </li><li>Follows internal cash control procedures when securing payment(s) of estimated patient liability </li><li>Assists patients with establishing payment arrangements </li><li>Visits all in-house self-pay patients, evaluates their eligibility for Medicaid or other indigent programs </li><li>Visits all in-house patients with an estimated patient liability to explain insurance benefit information and estimated patient liability </li><li>Follows up with patients if registration information collected at the time of hospitalization was incomplete </li><li>Enters updated patient demographic and insurance information in the computer system </li><li>Enters pertinent notes into the collection notes of the registration system. If the patients account has final billed, enter the notes in the appropriate collection notes system. </li><li>Works closely with outside agencies and/or vendors in assisting patients applying for Medicaid and/or State aid </li><li>Assists patients and consumers in applying for Health Insurance Marketplace insurance </li><li>Maintains a professional image and provides excellent customer service to patients and consumers </li><li>Attends department meetings, education sessions and hospital specific training programs </li><li>Meets/exceeds performance expectations within required timeframes </li><li>Practices and adheres to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and Mission and Value statement of the Hospital </li><li>Supports special projects and business analysis as requested </li><li>Adheres to all HSC/Hospital Policies and Procedures </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED required </li></ul> <p>Licensure/Certification/ Registration</p> <ul> <li>The Benefits Advisor must be certified, if required by the State or State Exchange Programs </li><li>In order to perform Health Insurance Marketplace counseling appropriate State and/or Federal certification is required </li></ul> <p>Required Work Experience</p> <ul> <li>3 or more years of recent experience in a healthcare setting </li></ul> <p>Complexity of Work</p> <ul> <li>Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision </li><li>Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action </li></ul> <p>Personal Protective Equipment</p> <ul> <li>Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required </li></ul>
