The CFD is comprised of multiple divisions with diverse operations staffed by over 120 firefighters and professional staff.</p> <p>For over 150 years, the Champaign Fire Department has stood as a beacon of safety, resilience, and community support. Our roots trace back to a time when horse-drawn fire apparatus roamed the streets, and the commitment to protecting lives and property was as strong as the brass buttons on a firefighter's uniform. Today, we proudly carry forward this legacy, adapting to modern challenges while staying true to the core principles that have guided us throughout history.</p> <p>Fire Fighters respond to fire alarms and assist in extinguishing fires in the protection of lives and property; assist in cleaning and caring for apparatus, equipment, and quarters; administer first aid treatment; assist in rescue work in various emergencies; and inspect buildings for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention ordinances.</p> <p>To learn more about the first steps of the hiring process visit us here at https://champaignil.gov/fire</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>U. S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States (must meet I-9 requirements). </li><li>Valid Driver's License. </li><li>High School Diploma or equivalent. </li><li>Must be 35 years of age by the date of the written examination, unless otherwise exempt by state statute and at least 21 years of age by date of hire. </li><li>Must be able to provide proof of valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and Ladder Climb Test certification at the time of conditional offer of employment. </li><li>Some convictions, misdemeanors or serious traffic offenses may disqualify applicants from further consideration, if the criminal conviction history has a substantial relationship to the position applied for. </li></ul>
