<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Danbury Public Schools is a diverse community located in the western part of Connecticut and serving more than 12,500 students spread across the City of Danbury, Connecticut. DPS recruits and commits to educators with passion, who are committed to our vision to aspire to advance ALL learners to their highest potential.</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>Instruct students in French language and culture; help students develop proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing French while broadening their understanding of global perspectives. Create an engaging and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, creativity, and growth. Collaborate with colleagues to support student learning and achievement.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Danbury Board of Education </li><li>Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines </li><li>Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment </li><li>Prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners </li><li>Demonstrate strong content knowledge in French language and Francophone cultures </li><li>Maintain accurate and complete records as required </li><li>Conduct parent/teacher conferences </li><li>Assess student learning on a continual basis and identify areas for intervention if needed </li><li>Keep parents informed of student progress through interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences </li><li>Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students </li><li>Design and implement assessments to measure progress and use data to improve instructional practices </li><li>Maintain a positive learning environment that fosters open communication </li><li>Encourage ethical student behavior and positive citizenship </li><li>Participate in the selection of textbooks and instructional materials </li><li>Establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, students, and families </li><li>Engage in ongoing professional learning through seminars, workshops, and collaboration </li><li>Demonstrate effective teaching methods appropriate for secondary world language instruction </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:</p> <ul> <li>Experience working with adolescent learners in a diverse school setting </li><li>Ability to foster a student-centered, culturally responsive learning environment </li><li>Clear and effective oral and written communication skills </li><li>Active listening and collaboration skills </li><li>Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities </li><li>Prior teaching experience preferred </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Active 018 World Language - French Certification issued by the Connecticut State Department of Education </li><li>Bachelor's Degree in Education or French (Master's preferred) </li><li>Demonstrated success in a multicultural or urban educational setting </li><li>Experience with team teaching and collaboration </li><li>Strong interpersonal and classroom management skills </li><li>Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Danbury Board of Education may find appropriate </li></ul> <p>Salary: Salary and wages are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education which can be found on our website.</p>
