<p>Posting closes on 4/28/2025</p> <p>This position is responsible for coordinating and conducting complex transportation planning activities for the Department. This position is also responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of consultants conducting transportation planning studies for the Department. In addition, this position acts as Assistant Section Head.</p> <p>Examples of Work</p> <p>The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.</p> <ul> <li>Conduct, coordinate, and oversee all types of transportation facility studies. </li><li>Oversee and review long-range transportation plans. </li><li>Coordinate multimodal planning activities with partner agencies. </li><li>Coordinate with other Divisions and Districts in plan or project development. </li><li>Prepare and oversee project and planning support analyses. </li><li>Ensure quality control of planning products and consistency with Department, Division, and Section procedures. </li><li>Represent the Department as an expert in matters involving transportation planning. </li></ul> <p>Additional Examples of Work Applicable to the Statewide Planning Section</p> <ul> <li>Oversee or review traffic forecasts and travel demand modeling. </li><li>Oversee, prepare, or review traffic analysis models, traffic microsimulation models, interchange justification reports, and project- or corridor-level planning studies. </li><li>Review construction plans and maintenance of traffic plans </li><li>Oversee or review road user cost estimates and benefit-cost analyses. </li></ul> <p>Additional Examples of Work Applicable to the Performance Management Section</p> <ul> <li>Oversee and coordinate statewide performance reporting, measurement, and monitoring. </li><li>Review project-scale and regional air quality models. </li><li>Oversee the maintenance and improvement of system inventory data. </li><li>Support grant-related activities. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <p>Education and experience: Possession of a current Arkansas license* to practice professional engineering. Experience in transportation planning and consultant oversight.</p> <p>Knowledge, skills and abilities: Effective leadership and communication skills both orally and in writing. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to represent the Department in public. Ability to organize, prioritize, and multitask.</p> <p>Working conditions: Office environment. Occasional field work. Occasional statewide travel.</p> <p>Licenses, registrations and certifications: Valid driver's license.</p> <ul> <li>The Department will consider applicants with Professional Engineering licenses from other states, with the condition that a reciprocal Arkansas license be obtained within 180 days of hire. Failure to obtain the Arkansas license within this time period may result in immediate termination. Candidates are responsible for verifying eligibility for reciprocity with the Arkansas PE Board before accepting a position. </li></ul>
