<p>Student Disability Services Specialist</p> <p>POSITION DETAILS</p> <p>The CUNY School of Law is the premier public interest law school in the country. Founded in 1983, we train lawyers to serve historically underrepresented communities and work towards greater diversity in the legal profession. We are the most diverse law school on the East Coast, and one of the top law schools in the country for clinical practice.</p> <p>The Student Disability Services Specialist is a member of the Student Support & Wellness Team within the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Division atCUNYSchool of Law. This role coordinates the provision of reasonable accommodations and support services for students with documented disabilities in compliance with ADA regulations and CUNY School of Law policy. Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Support, the Student Disability Services Specialist ensures reasonable accommodations are made for students with disabilities while also supporting broader programs/services aimed at enhancing the student experience.</p> <p>In addition to the position summary, other key duties include but the following:¿</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assists with planning comprehensive program of services for students with disabilities through approval and facilitation of reasonable accommodations</p> </li><li> <p>Provides oversight in day-to-day operations including; budgeting, procurement, assistive technology loans, and providing direction to support staff, work study, interns and volunteers</p> </li><li> <p>Forages strong relationships with internal and external services providers to ensure wide-ranging referral resources for students</p> </li><li> <p>Spearheads workshops, presentations, appearances, and committees to provide education and awareness around students with disabilities</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitates approved accommodations relating to Assistive Technology including; disbursement/trainings, alternate format texts, and maintenance and renew of existing licenses</p> </li><li> <p>Seeks out and grants and fundraising opportunities including NY State RA funds, Central Office proposals, and other local funders</p> </li><li> <p>Authors and communicates Disability Accommodation Decision Letters to students and faculty</p> </li><li> <p>Oversees exam accommodation coordination including the scheduling process, recruitment/oversight of proctors, requests for space and personally proctoring where needed</p> </li><li> <p>Provides administrative backing to the office including but not limited to CUNY Accommodate usage, periodic announcements to various stakeholders, record keeping, furnishing student letters for external entities, and answering general email inquires</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in the facilitation of classroom accommodations, and the dissemination of related student-facing resources</p> </li><li> <p>Support faculty in implementing reasonable accommodations in compliance with individual plans, federal guidelines and CUNY School of Law practices</p> </li><li> <p>Support students in a one-on-one setting where necessary</p> </li></ul> <p>Nights and weekends may be required.</p> <p>Perform related duties as assigned.</p> <p>Like other staff in the Law School, you are subject to the same in-person requirements, which entail a minimum of 70% in-person on-campus presence over two weeks. This requirement for in-person work may be higher than 70% based on departmental and divisional needs.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Master's in special education, social work, higher education, administration, or other related discipline.</p> </li><li> <p>Two to four years' experience working in and/or managing student disability services and programs serving a diverse student population in a higher education.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of ADA/504 compliance, with ongoing attention to compliance; familiarity with current landscape of disability services on higher education campuses.</p> </li><li> <p>Exceptional organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines with minimal oversight/supervision.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proper documentation and protection of sensitive information</p> </li><li> <p>The ability to work extended evening and weekend hours as required several times per year for events and midterms/final exams</p> </li></ul> <p>CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW</p> <p>Assists with planning and providing a comprehensive program of services for students with disabilities.</p> <ul> <li>Assists with daily supervision of the unit, including budgets, personnel supervision, and facilities/equipment management </li><li>Provides guidance and advisement to student organizations, administrators, faculty and others on concerns and issues related to students with special needs </li><li>Interacts with counselors, disability accommodations specialists, and external community organizations to maintain a broad inventory of available services </li><li>Presents programs and workshops, and prepares communications to students and others promoting the goals of the unit </li><li>Organizes and provides for assistive technology and interpretive services </li><li>May develop and/or review individual educational plans that incorporate individually designed academic support services and accommodations within the guidelines of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) </li><li>Performs related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Job Title Name: Student Disability Services Specialist</p> <p>CUNY TITLE</p> <p>Higher Education Assistant</p> <p>FLSA</p> <p>Exempt</p> <p>COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS</p> <p>$68,861-$72,667</p> <p>Salary commensurate with education and experience.</p> <p><em>For appointments expected to start on or before 8/31/2025:</em></p> <p><em>CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases.
