<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Office of Energy and Sustainability (OES) is seeking several enthusiastic, collaborative, and motivated students to serve as OES interns. The successful candidates will work with the Sustainability Manager to design and implement a variety of sustainability programs across campus. Projects could include: planning and implementation of Ecolympics 2026; implementing various sustainable land management initiatives; expansion of campus recycling, composting, and other waste reduction programs; developing policy and guidance documents for green events and green purchasing; expanding alternative transportation and commuting options; and the development of other programs that support carbon neutrality. These are part time (~2-5 hours per week) $12/hr paid student positions reporting to the Sustainability Manager.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>OES interns will work with the Sustainability Manager to design and implement a variety of sustainability programs across campus. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:</p> <ul> <li>Assist with the design and implementation of Ecolympics, a community wide resource reduction competition, that takes place in early spring 2026; </li><li>Assist with the continued improvement of the campus recycling and compost systems through the creation of new outreach materials/campaigns aimed at both students and facility/staff, tabling to increase awareness of what is/isn't recyclable/compostable, and identifying new waste streams to target for reduction such as single-use plastics; </li><li>Assist with the revision and administration of the Green Room and Green Office programs; </li><li>Work with the Sustainability Manager and Grounds Manager to pilot alternative turf management practices and other sustainable land management projects; </li><li>Expand alternative transportation options for students and staff; </li><li>Explore the creation of guidance documents for topics such as green events and green purchasing policies; </li><li>Assist with communication efforts that could include creating content for digital signs, social media, and "Daily Eco Obie tips" for the Campus Digest; </li><li>Brainstorm other programs and policies that support carbon neutrality; </li><li>Produce annual summary of accomplishments, challenges, deliverables, recommendations, and updated stakeholder lists; and </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Full- or part-time student at Oberlin College and Conservatory as of the 2025/2026 academic year with an interest in environmental sustainability issues (this may be from related classes, student groups, volunteerism, work either on or off campus, etc). Open to all class years. Applicants must have excellent communication and outreach skills, ability to successfully collaborate with faculty and staff, and be driven to advance sustainability at Oberlin College and Conservatory.
