<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Fulfills Norwich University's mission by managing and overseeing the operations of the Central Heat Plant, including biomass and oil systems for steam production to meet campus demands. Handles maintenance, regulatory compliance, fuel procurement, and system reliability. Functions as Central Heat Plant operator and supervisor.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assigns work duties to Heating Plant Operators, orienting staff to new or revised procedures and equipment. Responsible for ensuring all plant staff are trained and dutifully follow all safety procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervises 24/7 Heating Plant Operators and ensures safety compliance.</p> </li><li> <p>Manages plant maintenance and preventative programs to make the facility run smoothly.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversees chemical treatment and additives for feed water and steam condensate.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates fuel deliveries and maintain plant cleanliness.</p> </li><li> <p>Operates woodchip and oil boilers to produce steam of about (25-125 psi).</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains records for EPA, OSHA, and Vermont compliance.</p> </li><li> <p>Collects and analyzes plant data; performs equipment maintenance.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensures compliance with all conditions of Air Pollution Control permit.</p> </li><li> <p>Collects plant process data and logs throughout shift.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs maintenance on equipment as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates with University technicians/engineers to support energy efficiency goals.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversees Goodyear pool water maintenance.</p> </li><li> <p>Balances chemicals and stabilizers to pool water.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitors and add water when needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs chemical testing on a weekly schedule.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs all duties safely and professionally and in accordance with established Norwich University and departmental policies and procedures.</p> </li></ul> <p>Other Functions</p> <ul> <li>Assesses the performance of direct reports, logs, CHP data, and provides frequent feedback to optimize their performance. </li><li>Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information. </li><li>Communicate with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner. </li><li>Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned. </li><li>Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software. </li><li>Speaks, reads, and writes in English. </li><li>Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device. </li><li>Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>3 years of experience in boiler and turbine operations. </li><li>Strong knowledge of steam systems, thermodynamics, hydraulics, and mechanical/electrical systems, as well as related education and certification in power plant operations and maintenance. </li><li>Ability to troubleshoot and repair plant equipment. </li><li>Proficiency in reading wiring diagrams, control systems, and blueprints. </li><li>Valid driver's license </li><li>Able to operate bobcat-style equipment. </li><li>Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical exam </li><li>Basic proficiency in MS Office. </li><li>Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 80 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus </li><li>Work evening or weekend hours as needed. </li></ul> <p>Environmental Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Indoor work at a computer workstation and heating plant. </li><li>High level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Norwich University is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to providing a positive education and work environment that recognizes and respects the dignity of all students, faculty and staff.
