<p>JOB TITLE - ELL Associate</p> <p>CLASSIFICATION - Classified</p> <p>FLSA STATUS - Non-Exempt</p> <p>IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR - Building Principal</p> <p>RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM - Building administrators, Director of Student Services</p> <p>PURPOSE OF THE POSITION - An ELL Associate translates documents and interprets conversations from English to a student/family's first language and from a student/family's first language to English. Additional responsibilities include assisting teachers with working with ELL families, instructional groups, clerical, supervision, and other supportive duties.</p> <p>Please review the UCSD Actions of Excellence to gain an understanding of the expectations for UCSD employees.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS -</p> <p>(Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education, Certification/Licensure, Experience, Equipment)</p> <p>Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to translate written materials and interpret conversations to and from English. </li><li>Knowledge of English language development. </li><li>Knowledge of different cultures and ability to share that knowledge with students and staff. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with English Learner students, families, and school staff. </li><li>Ability to assist individual students or groups with academic tasks. </li><li>Ability to collaborate with ELL and general education teachers. </li><li>Understanding and application of classroom and building procedures. </li><li>Ability to follow directions and work independently. </li><li>Strong oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Ability to maintain accurate student records and confidentiality. </li><li>Ability to use technology, including Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms. </li><li>Ability to maintain an orderly classroom and assist with student supervision. </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent required. </li><li>Paraeducator certificate preferred. </li></ul> <p>Experience</p> <ul> <li>Experience with translating and interpreting. </li><li>Successful experience working with children preferred. </li></ul> <p>Equipment</p> <ul> <li>Office equipment such as computers, two-way radios, multi-line phone system, cell phone, copier, and fax machines. </li><li>Familiarity with Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms preferred. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -</p> <p>The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Translate and interpret between English and other languages. </li><li>Act as a liaison between the school and English Learner families. </li><li>Assist with classroom routines and supervision. </li><li>Support students academically as directed by teachers. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality and accurate records. </li><li>Use technology tools effectively. </li><li>Administer individual tests when needed. </li><li>Support a positive and organized learning environment. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality. </li><li>Maintain a reliable attendance record. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISION OF OTHERS -</p> <ul> <li>None </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -</p> <ul> <li>Repetitious bending, lifting, and hand movement. </li><li>Ability to work while standing, moving and/or walking. </li><li>Drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free while working. </li><li>Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids. </li><li>Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS -</p> <ul> <li>Majority of work is performed in an office or school setting. </li><li>Occasional meetings outside the school day. </li><li>Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergency situations. </li></ul> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT -</p> <ul> <li>At-Will Employee </li><li>Letter of Assignment </li><li>Per Board Policies and administrative guidelines </li><li>Performance evaluated annually </li></ul>
