Any experience working with veterinary services, animal shelters, or animal rescues preferred.</p> <p>Licenses and Certifications: Valid Oklahoma driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Ability to obtain and maintain OK Bureau of Narcotic and Dangerous Drug License (OBNDD) and Euthanasia Technician License within one (1) year of employment.</p> <p>Knowledge: Proper care and characteristics of animals including proper handling procedures. First aid for animals.</p> <p>Skills: Oral and written communications. Cash handling. Following oral and written instructions. Dealing with others firmly, tactfully, and impartially. Working with sick or vicious animals. Effective interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with distraught citizens.</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Essential Functions: Responds to complaints from citizens and picks up loose, dead, or unwanted animals. Responds to calls involving injured animals, animal bites, and vicious animals. Apprehends vicious animals and assists injured animals as needed. Issues citations and files charges for violations of Animal Welfare ordinances. Appears in court to provide testimony. Euthanizes animals by state approved method and disposes of carcasses by cremation. Maintains the cleanliness of kennel area where animals are housed. Ensures proper care of animals in the kennel by feeding, cleaning, and giving medical treatment as needed. Handles dangerous or large animals and impounds if necessary. Properly identifies all impounded animals and ensures that accurate records are maintained. Operates firearm or tranquilizer gun to destroy or sedate dangerous or wild animals. Performs general office work which includes taking complaints by telephone and assisting the public. Performs related duties as required.</p> <p>Working Conditions: Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies, equipment, and animals frequently. Ability to lift heavy (50-100 lbs.) animals occasionally. Work requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Physical ability to run after/apprehend animals and strength to sustain control over animals.</p> <p>Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to work under stressful conditions including the euthanasia and cremation of animals. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.</p> <p>Additional Information: Applicants must have home telephone or number where they may be reached. Final candidates will undergo a background investigation, polygraph and a psychological test. Selected applicant must pass physical examination and drug screen.</p>
