<p>Summary:</p> <p>The Pediatric GI Nurse Practitioner is (NP) accountable to facilitate a quality hospital experience and outcome for patients within a cost-effective time frame. The NP will be responsible to the Chief and Medical Director oF the division. The NP is responsible for overseeing the progress of a specific caseload of patients across the care continuum. The main practice focus is the outpatient clinic as well inpatient consultation to assist the inpatient GI service team. The NP shall act as an educator consultant and liaison to healthcare providers caring for gastroenterology nutrition and liver patients.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>Addresses patient and referring physician?s phone calls with urgent clinical questions and schedules urgent visits when appropriate.</p> <p>Coordinates referrals from the Emergency Department and pediatricians. Assists with triaging new patient referrals and schedules urgent patient visits when appropriate.</p> <p>Provides liaison support for the Pediatric Heme-Onc infusion center to assure that all GI patients have the appropriate labs imaging and therapy plans are in place on or before the day of the infusion. Serves as the first call provider to respond to acute needs of the infusion relating to GI patients.</p> <p>Obtains and records medical histories performs and records physical examinations records pertinent progress notes in the medical records develops treatment plans develops follow-up plans and coordinates follow-up visits with the attending gastroenterologists.</p> <p>Initiates patient care management plan with the registered nurses and the attending physician. Provides educational and liaison supports to health care team members including RNs and MAs.</p> <p>Participates in the education of patients families and caregivers regarding the treatment plan and expected outcomes and progress.</p> <p>May perform other duties as requested by the attending physician including but not limited to evaluation of patients in the office hospital or coordination of transitioning inpatient to outpatient treatment plans.</p> <p>Participates in quality improvement teams and other committees as needed.</p> <p>Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives</p> <p>Other information:</p> <p>Other Information</p> <p>Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.</p> <p>BASIC KNOWLEDGE:</p> <p>Graduate from a Nurse Practitioner program with MS degree.</p> <p>Certified by the American Nurses Association (ANA) or by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to practice in the expanded role.</p> <p>License must include prescriptive privileges.</p> <p>Completion of a course in American Heart Association Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support.</p> <p>Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).</p> <p>EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>Successful completion of supervised three-month clinical internship or equivalent in clinically intensive atmosphere (hospital) preferably in Pediatrics or Gastroenterology.</p> <p>Must have patient care services procedures and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician.</p> <p>Healthcare environment such as acute care hospital physicians? office and ancillary healthcare enterprises.</p> <p>Any hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.</p> <p>INDEPENDENT ACTION:</p> <p>Responds to individual patient-care situations demonstrating knowledge and skills acquired through education certification and work experience.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>None.</p> <p>Brown University Health is an Equal Opportunity employer.
