<p>Summer Camp Lifeguard</p> <p>Concord Recreation is seeking Lifeguards for its Summer Camp program at the Emerson Pool. Lifeguards work under the direct supervision of the Camp Director and Head Summer Camp Lifeguard to safeguard all campers from water-related accidents. They are responsible for constant patrol surveillance of their assigned area and enforcement of recreational rules and regulations established by the Town of Concord Recreation Division. In addition, lifeguards must practice preventative lifeguarding, keep themselves physically fit and mentally aware, maintain and operate safety equipment, administer first-aid as required, and render aid necessary to rescue and resuscitate near drowning victims. Lifeguards also assist in the cleaning, security, and maintenance of the Emerson Pool and adjacent areas.</p> <p>Summer Camp Lifeguards will be a part of the greater Concord Recreation's Lifeguard Team including all Guards from the Beede Center, Whites Pond, and Emerson Pool. Guards may be asked to assist at other facilities, but camp will take priority.</p> <p>Additionally, as a member of the Summer Camp team, you may be asked to assist with program facilitation beyond the pool. This includes supervising activities, attending field trips, assisting with camper arrival and departure, and other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.</p> <p>Pay range: $15.75-$20.00/hour; pay rate based on qualifications. This is an hourly, part-time position, consisting of up to 37.5 hours per week.</p> <p>Work Schedule:</p> <p>Monday to Friday, 8:30AM-4:00PM</p> <p>Program Date:</p> <p>June 15 - August 14, 2026</p> <p>Training Dates:</p> <p>June 4 & 5, 2026 @5:30PM - 8:30PM</p> <p>June 6, 2026 @8:30AM - 4:00PM</p> <p>June 17, 2026 @4:15PM - 5:15PM</p> <p>July 1, 2026 @4:15PM - 5:15PM</p> <p>Applications will continue to be accepted until filled. Responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under their direction and control. Performs varied and responsible duties requiring a thorough knowledge of departmental operations and the exercise of judgment and initiative in completing tasks, particularly in situations not clearly defined by precedent or established procedures. Incumbent is called upon to handle a significant amount of details, each varying from the other in substance and content, requiring incumbent to approach workload with flexibility.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case-by-case basis.</p> <ul> <li>Maintains watchfulness over pools or pond to prevent dangerous situations. (Guarding from chair, patrolling the beach, etc.). </li><li>Monitors and assists swimmers. </li><li>Enforces all facility rules; follows all safety-related procedures. </li><li>Provides basic first aid. </li><li>Performs rescue if appropriate, calls for help, provides emergency care, interviews witnesses, and files reports. </li><li>Attends monthly in-service trainings. </li><li>Maintains a high level of expertise and professionalism. </li><li>Maintains proper attire (red lifeguard bathing suit); reports with provided shirt, whistle. </li><li>Responsible for assisting in the execution of certain activities and events, dealing with the camp and other programs. </li><li>Responsible for learning the facilities and the communication system in the event of an emergency. </li><li>Be familiar with phone locations, first aid stations information stations, points of contact, etc. </li><li>Performs other related duties as required, directed or as the situation arises. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Current Lifeguarding certification, or able to obtain prior to first shift. </li><li>Water Safety Instructor and Waterfront Lifeguard certification strongly preferred. </li><li>Must be 16 years of age or older (work permit needed if under 18). </li><li>Available to work for the entire season (~10 weeks). </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Working knowledge of aquatic facilities, procedures and equipment. Thorough working knowledge of and ability to perform lifesaving techniques, CPR and First Aid. Ability to swim. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the public, including children and young adults, in a courteous and tactful manner and to fairly and tactfully enforce facility rules and regulations. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the physical demands (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case-by-case basis.</p> <p>Moderate physical effort is generally required which involves frequent lifting of between 30 and 60 pounds. Additional physical effort is required in emergency situations to perform rescue/lifesaving activities. Regularly required to walk, swim, stand, crouch, reach, crawl, climb, talk, sit, watch and hear for extended periods of time. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects or equipment. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges.</p> <p>Work is performed in varied environments including those of a large multi-pool aquatic facility, an outdoor camp pool, and a pond waterfront; includes exposure to various weather conditions and pool chemicals.
