<p>Description</p> <p>We are seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our team as a Traffic Sign Technician. This semi-skilled position involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control signs and related equipment. The role requires the ability to work independently under general supervision, receiving instructions either verbally or in writing. Work will be primarily performed in the field, with tasks completed through site inspections and review of work orders.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Traffic Sign Installation & Maintenance: Install, remove, replace, relocate, and repair traffic control devices, signs, and barricades according to the Uniform Traffic Control Devices Manual (MUTCD), departmental policies, and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) standards. </li><li>Field Work & Inspections: Travel to various field locations to perform maintenance and repairs on traffic control signs to ensure compliance with federal regulations, including proper placement, visibility, and appropriateness. </li><li>Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance tasks, such as trimming trees and brush, cleaning signs, and removing any obstructions that may impair sign visibility, ensuring driver safety. </li><li>Work Orders & Documentation: Complete electronic work orders in the signs database system, detailing sign location, type, work performed, and the reasons for repairs. Document measurements, work time, and date of repairs accurately. </li><li>Sign Restoration: Repair or restore damaged, vandalized, or weathered signs to ensure compliance with federal standards. </li><li>Barricade Installation: Place and install detour barricades and directional markers in accordance with detour plans and federal regulations. </li><li>Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and equipment. </li><li>Assistance with Sign Fabrication: Assist in the fabrication of traffic control signs as needed. </li></ul> <p>Education, Experience, Licensing</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High School diploma or GED equivalent. </li><li>At least one year of experience in general maintenance and repairs, including the use of hand and power tools. </li><li>Preferred: Experience in traffic control sign installation and repair. </li><li>Required Certifications (or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire): </li><li>Traffic Safety in the Work Zone Area. </li><li>International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) certification. </li><li>Association Level I Signs and Markings certification. </li></ul> <p>Licensing Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <ul> <li>Traffic Control Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and regulations governing traffic control devices. </li><li>Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret federal manuals, engineering diagrams, and traffic control site plans. Proficient in understanding installation and placement standards for traffic control signs. </li><li>Independent Decision-Making: Ability to make sound decisions based on instructions and site conditions. </li><li>Tool Proficiency: Skilled in using tools and equipment commonly used in sign installation, fabrication, and maintenance. </li><li>Safety Awareness: Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to traffic control. </li><li>Computer Skills: Basic computer literacy, including data entry and familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS) software. </li><li>Communication: Ability to follow oral and written instructions, read road maps, and complete necessary documentation and records. </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule:</p> <ul> <li>Monday to Thursday, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. </li></ul>
