<p>Position Title Research Associate-Agriculture Sciences Division College of Agriculture Department Agricultural Sciences and Engineering Number of hours per week 37.5 Days to be worked Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday Months per year Fiscal (12 months) If modified, list months Job Type Full-Time Campus Main Campus If other location, please indicate Position Number 120240 Advertised Salary Pay Basis Monthly Job Description</p> <p>Tennessee State University Department of Agriculture Sciences and Engineering invites applications for the position of Research Associate.</p> <p>The Plant Biotechnology Laboratory in the Department of Agricultural Sciences and</p> <p>Engineering, College of Agriculture, is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate. This</p> <p>position offers the opportunity to actively participate in research and outreach projects, while</p> <p>also contributing to course support, student research projects, and scientific publications.</p> <p>Position starts in January 2026 and ends on December 31, 2026, with potential for extension based on performance and availability of funds.</p> <p>Primary Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Collect and process tissue samples from ongoing research projects in the field and greenhouses; </li><li>Assist with grant writing and proposal preparation, including gathering supporting data and </li></ul> <p>contributing to technical content.</p> <ul> <li>Provide teaching and laboratory support including preparing lab materials and assisting </li></ul> <p>students with hands-on exercises.</p> <ul> <li>Monitor undergraduate research assistants, supporting their professional development and </li></ul> <p>ensuring their lab work aligns with academic goals</p> <ul> <li>Prepare datasets, conduct preliminary analysis and contribute to the writing of research manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and technical reports. </li><li>Draft and deliver outreach materials and presentations for diverse audiences, induding </li></ul> <p>farmers, students, stakeholders, and funding agencies.</p> <ul> <li>Submit bi-weekly progress reports summarizing project activities in the lab, data findings, and </li></ul> <p>upcoming objectives.</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate meetings with project stakeholders and maintain effective communication </li></ul> <p>across research collaborators.</p> <ul> <li>Manage data entry and reporting through TSU's D28 portal; maintain </li></ul> <p>comprehensive aid organized research records.</p> <ul> <li>Use Microsoft Excel for data organization, analysis, visualization, and budget tracking. </li><li>Monitor project budget; prepare and submit purchase orders, travel authorizations, and expense </li></ul> <p>reports according to university guidelines.</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with faculty on the development of new research proposals and funding </li></ul> <p>opportunities.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Science, or a related field. </li><li>Demonstrated experience with soil and plant tissue sampling and analysis and data interpretation, and report creation. </li><li>Demonstrated skills in support classroom teaching and lab instruction. </li><li>Experience mentoring or supervising students in academic or research settings. </li><li>Demonstrated experiences in application of precision technology in vegetable production systems in high tunnel and open field, induding sensor technology; </li><li>Demonstrated skills in microscope technology, and biotech related field; </li><li>Demonstrated ability to contribute to grant writing and assist with scientific manuscript preparation. </li><li>Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. </li><li>Demonstrated skills and passion on outreach activities using in-person and on-line platforms </li></ul> <p>Special Instructions to Applicants</p> <p>Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a criminal background check as mandated by Tennessee State University.</p> <p>Official transcripts for positions which require a post-secondary undergraduate degree, advanced degree and/or certification must be presented upon hire.</p> <p>An unofficial transcript may be attached in the "Transcript" section.</p> <p>You will be required to provide names and contact information for three references during your application to the posting.
