Extension of position is dependent upon availability of funding, program needs, and satisfactory performance.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Assists with DeLong lab maintenance and upkeep of laboratory facilities, instrument maintenance, and organization. </li><li>As lab manager, orders miscellaneous supplies and equipment. </li><li>Develops and implement protocols for high throughput, robotically enabled DNA and RNA extraction, library preparation and analyses. </li><li>Implements protocols for generating high throughput, robotically enabled DNA and RNA sequencing libraries, for use on next generation sequencing platforms. </li><li>Leads the project focused on the nature and roles of microbes involved in the degradation of hohg molecular weight, naturally occurring dissolved organic matter from ocean waters. </li><li>Conducts microcosm and laboratory experiments using microcosms and lab cultures, to identify genes, metabolic pathways and mechanisms of the degradation of naturally occurring dissolved organic matter from ocean water. </li><li>Collaborates in the computational biology analyses of time-series metagenomic data collected at Station ALOHA, using state of the art microbial genetic, genomic and metabolic pathway analyses. </li><li>Collaborates with PI in the writing and submission of research proposals to continue projects. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>A Master's degree from a college or university of recognized standing in molecular biology, general microbiology, bacterial genetics or related field; facility in the techniques of the relevant field; accuracy, alertness, and adaptability. </li><li>Professionalism in meeting and conferring with other. </li><li>Five years postdoctoral experience. </li><li>10 years of research experience in molecular biology, general microbiology, and bacterial genetics. </li><li>Proven experience in advanced methods in generating and analyzing DNA and RNA sequencing libraries. </li><li>Proven experience in advanced analyses of bacterial genes, genomes and metabolic pathways. </li><li>Ability to work in a research lab setting, and occasionally at sea for oceanographic sampling. </li></ul> <p>Desirable Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Documented experience in the analyses of microbial transcriptomes and gene expression analyses. </li><li>Documented experience in virology, with a focus in the area of bacterial viruses and bacteriophage </li><li>Documented experience in the functional characterization of essential bacterial genes, proteins and metabolic pathways. </li></ul> <p>To Apply:</p> <p>Applications may be filed online at https://www.governement jobs.com/careers/hawaiiedu.
