<p>Description</p> <p>The Montgomery County Parks Department, Park Planning & Stewardship Division, is currently seeking applications for a part-time (seasonal/intermittent) Museum Educator position for Josiah Henson Museum and Park (JHMP) in North Bethesda, MD.</p> <p>The Museum Educator reports to the Education Program Manager and works as needed, based on scheduled group tours and programs. Availability required 1-2 days per week. Tuesday - Friday 9 am - 2pm. Occasional weekend or evening availability would be appreciated.</p> <p>Examples of Important Duties</p> <ul> <li> <p>Conduct onsite/in-person educational guided tours for K-12 schools, homeschoolers, scouts, families, and other community groups visiting Josiah Henson Museum and Park using interpretive materials provided by Josiah Henson Museum and Park.</p> </li><li> <p>As needed, assist with development, delivery, and set-up/breakdown for onsite, offsite, or virtual programs.</p> </li><li> <p>As needed, work in the Visitor Center. Open/close public buildings, answer park patron questions and provide direction, check-in program attendees, ring up admissions and gift shop sales, as needed assist with cleaning/sanitation of public restrooms and public spaces. · Participate in mandatory trainings and staff meetings.</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Ideal candidates should be pursuing or have earned a college degree in Education, Public History, Museum Studies, American History, or a related field. </li><li>Experience conducting K-12 student tours, programs, or activities in a museum, park, or classroom setting. Familiarity with state/local curriculum standards are a plus. · </li><li>Proven ability to excel in verbal communication, take direction, be a team player, flexibility to multitask and maintain stability under pressure. </li><li>Demonstrated commitment to customer service, inclusion, diversity, equity, and access. </li><li>Bi-lingual skills (English/Spanish especially) are a plus. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED </li><li>One year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience · Valid driver's license, or the ability to acquire one. </li><li>Ability and enthusiasm for customer service and public speaking </li><li>Familiarity working with school age children. </li><li>Knowledge and willingness to learn about American history and lifeways. </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Ability to regularly work onsite/in person with staff, volunteers, and the public. </li><li>Ability to regularly move between the museum, visitor center, and grounds. </li><li>Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up 50 lbs. </li><li>Use of multiple technical equipment and software applications may be required. </li><li>Ability to provide regular transportation to work.
