Discover your opportunities at Yale!</p> <p>Salary Range</p> <p>$66,000.00 - $101,325.00</p> <p>Overview The Facilities Superintendent provides supervisory direction and coordination of custodial services activities to assist in the maintenance of university buildings for Facilities. Initiates and cultivates customer relations. Interacts with University staff to ascertain their facility needs and requirements. Responsible for providing routine and restorative cleaning and maintenance services while supervising bargaining unit employees, coordinating materials requirements, and managing customer service relationships. Responsible for the planning and scheduling work to ensure effective use of university resources and coordination of services for special events. May need to work irregular hours during emergencies and special events such as move-in, move-out, commissioning, start-ups, commencement, reunion, etc. Required Skills and Abilities 1. Well-developed supervisory skills, including experience with progressive discipline and performance feedback, and a proven ability to direct customer-focused teams providing cleaning and maintenance services. 2. Proven ability to provide administrative management to assess and maintain staffing needs, employee relations, and service the needs of University customers. 3. Proven ability to manage and coordinate activities of staff engaged in the planning and scheduling of maintenance and repair work. 4. Proven ability to produce and maintain management reports using business software (Microsoft Word and Excel). Preferred Education, Experience and Skills Experience supervising unionized employees. Experience with systems such as Oracle, SAP or People Soft applications. Experience in an academic institutional, research or medical facilities setting.</p> <p>Principal Responsibilities</p> <ol> <li>Supervises the day-to-day activities of support staff. 2. Assesses and resolves or escalates problems arising within unit. 3. Assists in the development of policies and procedures in support of unit. 4. Assists in long-range planning for work unit needs. 5. Participates in unit budget planning. 6. Evaluates work requests to determine if they are appropriate to the unit or another area. 7. Ensures that work flow is organized and staffed for quality efficient completion. 8. Communicates deadlines and special circumstances to staff. 9. Maintains equipment and supplies for unit. 10. Completes evaluations of direct report employees. 11. Interacts with University personnel to define work assignments and requirements, communicate progress of work, and plan and coordinate projects. 12. Interacts with external sources to coordinate work necessary to fulfill projects, keep abreast of new products and technologies, or arrange for subcontractors. 13. Supervises a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 14. Performs other duties as assigned.
