Do NOT write 'see resume' in your work history or\nresponses to supplemental questions.\n??Failure to comply with\nthese instructions may result in disqualification.\n??Read the Job Announcement\ncarefully for specific filing instructions, supplemental questions, and final\nfiling dates.\n</p> <p>GRADE</p> <p>ASTD11\n</p> <p>LOCATION OF POSITION</p> <p>Department of Maryland State\nPolice\nMotor Vehicle Division\n2433 Pulaski Hwy.\nNorth East, MD. 21901\n</p> <p>Main Purpose of Job</p> <p>The position\nfunctions as a Police Pursuit Vehicle Specialist and is responsible for the\nrepair and maintenance of all Police Pursuit vehicles owned by the Maryland\nState Police, State Fire Marshal's Office and Vehicle Theft Prevention Council.\nThis position maintains vehicles which will at any given time; have to exceed\ntwice the posted speed limit, in all weather and road conditions. This position\nensures the safe and reliable operating condition of all Police Pursuit\nvehicles. The safety of the Trooper as well as the motoring public traveling\nthe Maryland roadways is critical.\n</p> <p>POSITION DUTIES</p> <p>Replace or repair components on MSP vehicles and schedule\npreventive maintenance. Replaces complete engine assemblies, replaces / rebuilds\nentire rear differential assemblies to include axles, bearings and gears.\nReplaces all components involved in engine tune-up, to include spark plugs,\nignition wires, coil packs, crank and cam sensors, timing belts and\ndistributors. Diagnose, replace or repair water pumps, power steering pump,\nsteering gear box and steering racks. Diagnose and repair brake systems to\ninclude replacing brake pads, calipers, rotors and master cylinders. Diagnose,\nrepair or replace air conditioner components, to include evaporator units and\nperform a leak test after charging with refrigerant.\n\n\nDiagnose and repair mechanical / electrical malfunctions. Diagnose, repair or\nreplace electric windows, blower motors, alternator, electrical shorts, mass\nair flow sensors, crank and cam sensors, coil packs, engine computers, cooling\nsensors/relays, ABS systems and all other electrical components. Properly\nInstall, repair or replace electrical police equipment such as emergency\nlights, sirens and shot gun racks.\n\nOperate all computer scan tools, to diagnose repairs.\n\n\nPrepare necessary paperwork on completed repairs. Properly prepare\n'Motor Vehicle Repair Order' for each vehicle serviced. Attach a\nreceipt or invoice to all work orders for all outside purchased parts. Enter\nall inventory/stock and log all operation numbers, as per instructions on back\nof MSP motor vehicle repair order, with minimal mistakes. Is able to take on\nsome of the supervisors' duties in their absence and still maintain their\nscheduled repairs.\n\nRoad test vehicles, to ensure the safe operating condition.\n\n\n\n\nPerform minor welding work, cutting torch work and operate drill\npress\n\n\n\nOther duties as assigned by supervisory or\nCommand personnel.\n</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education: Completion of the\neighth grade.\n?Experience: Three years\nof experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles or equipment,\none year of which must have involved responsibility for performing major\nautomotive repair work.\n?\nNotes:\n\n1. Graduation?from an accredited vocational/technical high school with a\nmajor in automotive mechanics, or a related field, may be substituted for up to\nthree years of the required experience.\n?\n\n\n2.?Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military\nservice experience as a non-commissioned officer in\nMechanic?classifications or Automotive Maintenance Technician and\nVehicle?Maintenance specialty codes in the Mechanic or Maintenance field\nof work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.??\n</p> <p>DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following\npreferred qualifications. It is important that you include clear and specific\ninformation on your application regarding your qualifications.\n?\nPreferred Qualifications:?\n1)???Three years'\nexperience repairing and maintaining all aspects of an automobile.\n2)???Current or previous\nexperience completing major repairs to engines, brakes, suspension and\nelectrical systems.?\n</p> <p>LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS</p> <p>Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\n\n</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Employees in this classification are subject\nto random substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland\nRegulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\n?\nIn accordance with Section 2-204 (b) (6) of\nthe Public Safety Article, candidates will be subject to an initial drug\nscreening, a physical examination and a complete criminal background\ninvestigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment\ncan be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.\n</p> <p>SELECTION PROCESS</p> <p>Only candidates who meet the minimum\nqualifications will be considered for this classification.
