<p>Posting Number 0801799 Classification Title Assistant Professor of Biochemistry Working Title Department Department of Agriculture and Life Sciences Department Contact Email kcarter2@centralstate.edu Job Summary/Basic Function</p> <p>Job Summary:</p> <p>The Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences welcomes applications for a 9-month non-tenure track faculty position in the biology program of the Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Non-Tenure track faculty typically teach 15 contact hours per semester (undergraduate) or 30 contact hours per academic year </li><li>Faculty are expected to contribute to the program, department, University, and profession through appropriate service obligations, including the advising of students and committee service. </li><li>Teach undergraduate biochemistry and introductory chemistry courses as assigned (including, but not restricted to, general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry). </li><li>Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts. </li><li>Evaluate and grade students' class/lab work, assignments, and papers. </li><li>Collect and analyze data for program and university assessment. </li><li>Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records. </li><li>Compile, administer, and grade examinations. </li><li>Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions. </li><li>Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues. </li><li>Develop and use multimedia course materials and other current technology, such as online courses. </li><li>Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues. </li><li>Assist department chair with continual program development. </li><li>Participate in unit meetings and other university-wide activities/committees. </li><li>Conduct research in their area of expertise and seek grant funding for projects. </li><li>Other duties as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Previous successful work experience with culturally diverse populations a plus. </li><li>Cope effectively with adversity and demonstrate leadership skills that promote collegiality and cooperation. </li><li>Ability to use technology in instruction and student advising. Experience in curriculum and institutional assessment a plus. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Earned Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, or related discipline. </li><li>Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in the undergraduate classroom. </li><li>Evidence of potential for developing a research program in the area of biology, or multidisciplinary area that fully involves and engages undergraduate students. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Applicants with teaching experience in biology, and introductory level chemistry courses preferred. Frequent reaching, sitting, walking, and standing may be required.
