<p>This Maintenance Mechanic position is located within the Facilities Management Services at the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System in West Haven, CT. The employee performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. The duties are performed within at least two trades.</p> <p>Duties include but are not limited to the following:</p> <ul> <li>Developing patterns and laying out, cutting, forming, joining, assembling, and installing items such as heating, air conditioning, and ventilating pipes; conduits; drying ovens; airframes; air scoops; control and flying surfaces; metal furniture; and other items with combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes; and </li><li>Installing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of complex equipment, and systems involving power boilers with complicated components, critical requirements and rigid tolerances; Installing modifying, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment; Installing, recognizing the causes of faulty equipment and making repairs on large systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering and circulating. </li><li>Performing other related duties as assigned. </li><li>The employee receives work assignments in the form of written or oral instructions. The employee makes complex technical decisions and judgments to make repairs. The employee generally accomplishes the work with minimal supervision. Completed work is reviewed by the supervisor for adherence to established practices, outlined objectives, and technical requirements. </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm</p> <p>Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD03164-A</p> <p>Physical Requirements: ???????Physical Effort - The work requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions. The incumbent carries, lifts, and handles parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions - The work is performed inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather. The work area may be dirty, wet, dusty, and greasy. Incumbent is subject to cuts, abrasions, burns, broken bones, electrical shock, infections, bites, exposure to inhalation of harmful chemical fumes, irritation of eyes, etc. The incumbent may wear protective clothing.</p>
