<p>The Fairfield Police Department is looking for driven and community-minded Code Enforcement Officers who takes pride in making a visible impact. Field activities may include exposure to outdoor elements and confined workspaces, dust, electrical hazards, chemicals, dust and mechanical hazards. Required to work in all weather conditions and drive a motor vehicle to travel to and from sites. May deal frequently with irate members of the public. Night, weekend or extended hours of work may also be involved.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>Work may include prolonged walking and standing, some climbing, stooping, reaching, light to moderate lifting (up to 25 pounds) and inspecting in confined areas. Manual dexterity, clear, understandable speech, hearing, and visual acuity are also required. Employees will be required to wear personal protective gear that includes a ballistic vest, duty belt, and pepper spray.</p> <p>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: </p> <p>The Code Enforcement Officer I is the entry-level class in the Code Enforcement series. This class is distinguished from the journey level by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters allocated to the journey level.</p> <p>The Code Enforcement Officer II is the full journey level class within the Code Enforcement series. This class is distinguished from the Code Enforcement Officer I by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.</p> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:</p> <p>The Code Enforcement Officer I receives immediate supervision from the Code Enforcement Supervisor.</p> <p>The Code Enforcement Officer II receives general supervision from the Code Enforcement Supervisor. Exercises oversight and training to subordinate or part-time code enforcement staff.Code Enforcement Officer I: </p> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience dealing with the public, identifying and resolving problems encountered by individuals or community groups is required; including experience related to inspections, investigations and interpreting regulatory codes is highly desirable. </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade is required. </li></ul> <p>Code Enforcement Officer II: </p> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Two (2) years' experience and demonstrated competency equivalent to a Code Enforcement Officer I are required. </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by additional vocational training or related college course work in Code Enforcement is required. </li></ul> <p>LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATES:</p> <p>Code Enforcement Officer I:</p> <ul> <li>Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Class C California Driver's License are required. </li></ul> <p>Code Enforcement Officer II:</p> <ul> <li>Certification by a recognized code enforcement organization or program is highly desirable. </li><li>832 P.C. training and/or certificate is highly desirable. </li></ul> <p>For the complete job description please visit: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/fairfield/classspecs</p> <p>THE SELECTION PROCESS:</p> <p>Based on the information provided in the application documents, the best-qualified applicants will be invited for further examination.
