Part Time Shift Day Work Schedule Summary</p> <p>Hours and shifts to be determined; Will fall M-F between 8:00am and 5:00pm</p> <p>VP Area U of U Health - Academics Department 01620 - Chief Wellness Office Location Campus City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range $26.00 - $31.00 Close Date 06/24/2025 Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary</p> <p>Designs, Implements, supervises, and evaluates exercise therapy given to rehabilitating patients and/or other apparently healthy populations in order to restore proper physical functioning, and facilitate patient independence. The incumbent works under the supervision of a licensed physician and cooperates with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, pharmacists, dieticians, and other hospital staff to ensure quality patient care.</p> <p>Certification as an Exercise Specialist and one year of rehabilitation and exercise testing preferred. ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certificatoin may be required by some departments.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Assesses the extent of patients' abilities and limitations by reviewing medical records and physicians' notes. </li><li>Administers pre-exercise testing interview and test preparation. </li><li>Uses testing equipment, protocol selection, indications, contraindications, and termination criteria for graded exercise testing. </li><li>Records, analyzes, and interprets results of tests and prepares appropriate exercise prescriptions. </li><li>Administers therapeutic exercises and other techniques designed to provide improved functional capacity, exercise tolerance, exercise endurance, muscle strength and endurance, and coordination to rehabilitating patient populations. </li><li>Evaluates patients' hemodynamic, electrocardiographic, and symptomatic response to exercise, and assesses appropriateness of responses as they relate to exercise intensity and endurance. </li><li>In conjunction with multi-disciplinary team members, designs, implements, supervises, and evaluates outcomes for exercise services. </li><li>Conducts and evaluates performance testing including VO2max and lactate threshold testing and communicates results to participants. </li><li>Assists in developing and providing educational materials and programs for staff and patients. </li><li>Collaborates with appropriate leadership in data collection, statistical analysis, development and implementation of research projects. </li><li>Assists in establishing new and maintaining current referral patterns, both within the University of Utah Hospital and Health Centers and other Salt Lake and regional hospitals. </li><li>May assist in program development for corporate wellness clients, employee fitness/health, facility utilization, etc. </li><li>May conduct off-site health and wellness coaching to internal and/or external clients. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise and Sports Science, a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). A current Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association or obtain within one month of hire.</p> <p>This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.</p> <p>Preferences</p> <ul> <li>American College of Sports Medicine certification and/or Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator certification and/or NCSA CSCS certification </li><li>National Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach certification </li><li>Experience and proficiency with fitness testing including: Bodpod, RMR, V02 max, etc. </li><li>Experience doing 1-on-1 and group health coaching </li><li>2+ years experience managing staff and responsibility for all aspects of a project or program </li><li>Interest in population health management strategies involving physical activity </li></ul> <p>Type Benefited Staff Special Instructions Summary Additional Information</p> <p>The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
